I recently purchased a 2001 Z06 6-speed. I watched videos on how to remove the standard 6 speed shift **** that came with the car. My question is can I screw on a stock C6 shift **** if I purchase one, or not.
Thanks for Any Help.
I have seen photos of C5 with the C6 shift ***** in them, just don't know if it is just a remove one and install the other.
There is a weird little connector if you pop off the gear indicator panel on top of the ****. Use a flat blade screw driver to pop off the indicator panel than use pliers to pull up on the connector thing. Look at instructions for any aftermarket shifter kit.
Different threads for C5 and C6 *****. The ones you have seen are usually from folks who have replaced the whole shifter assembly with one out of a C6.

I saw some C6 shift ***** for sale on e-bay that said they were modified to fit the C5, modified how I don't know.

I've got a C6 **** that is retrofitted for the standard C5 shifter. (9/16" I believe? Bought the **** before my MGW. ) Look hard enough, and you'll find one.

Do you know what was done to retrofit it. I just purchased a used C6 shift **** off e-bay, and I was hoping to use it in my 2001 C5

Well the inside of the shift **** wasn't actually threaded, if I remember correctly. I believe it had a plastic lining and simply screwed onto the 9/16" threaded bolt. A little chincey, I suppose, but it's snug and looks great!
The threads on a C5 shifter are 9/16-18. A C6 **** uses a set screw.
Easiest way to remove the locking key from the slot is 2 screwdrivers, opposite each other and pry the thing up (take cap off first). Most are too tight just for pliers, and frequently the force you need to pull it out results in "unintended overshoot of the distance from the shifter to the roof"....get the idea?
