Default Need help on wheel weights.

So i have been doing some searching. I bought a set of oem 2001 aluminum wheels to replace my chrome wagon wheels on my 99. The wagon wheels on the car where part of the chrome package that was offered and the car came with them. From my research i have found that the wheels could potentially weight anywhere from 19-22 front rear or 22-29lbs front rear for the wagons. I am replacing them with the oem non polished 01 wheels which weigh supposedly 16-20 front rear. So i will be losing overall 26 lbs plus the weight loss of the run flats i am changing out. Does that sound correct or do i possibly have the lighter wagon wheels.

What will this do for performance since i know rotating mass have the biggest effect on power.

The chrome wagon wheels did not come from the factory - if they are OEM wheels they were put on there as part of an aftermarket chrome wheel exchange program. As such, I am sure they weigh more than the painted Y2K wheels due to the weight of the chrome.

There is a sticky in the C5 Tech section on weights, measurements, etc. that has a lot of great info on the C5, including the weights of various wheels.

I read the sticky but they don't have specifics on which ones are the heavy wagon wheels or how to tell it just lists weights and nothing for the chrome wagons. Also yes these where part of the after aftermarket chrome package according to the paperwork i got with the car.

In drag racing the rule of thumb is: losing 1# of rotating mass is equivalent to losing 10# of static mass. So, if you really lost 26#, that's significant.

Its going to be more than that since i am going from run flats to standard tires alon3 with the wheel weight difference. I am looking at possibly 50 pounds

I bought my 02 with a set of fake z06 wheels and run flats and then found a set of OEM z06 wheels with a decent set of contis off craigslist. The set up the car came with were extremely heavy and the car would pull to the right when you came to a stop light and would just handle goofy. After putting on the OEM speedlines with the better tires the car was much more true, it wouldn't pull when braking and tracked straight as an arrow.

I don't remember the weights but it was a solid 5-7 pounds per wheel at least. I noticed the difference and will not be using the knock wheels with runflats anymore. As for performance, you may feel the car is quicker but its the butt dyno. You will feel it, the steering is lighter and the car feels more nimble.
