Default Shifter install question....

Installing an OEM C6 shifter in my C5 Z06. I have a square plastic gasket from the B&M shifter that I could use to seal the shifter box, or would it be better to use black silicone? Will one reduce drive-line noise over the other?

Thanks

The only thing that dampens the noise is a rubber isolate mat that comes stock. BIG difference. Gaskets(any kind) do not dampen noise.

I knew it! I re-installed the stock shifter using the B&M gasket and there's still as much drive-line noise as the B&M. I was like WTF???? Maybe I could use the B&M gasket as a template for dynamat? My friends Hinson shifter came with a rubber gasket; maybe I can get one from them.

From the GM store they are $48- it is a heavy rubber mat about 6"by 8" with a hole for shifter four screws hold it down (if memory is correct) It is almost unbelievable how much different the sound is when installed!! You may have to cut out larger hole for aftermarket shifter. Good luck.

Actually, we're thinking of different parts. I'm referring to the thin gasket that seals between the bottom of the shifter and the shifter box.

The "gasket" is for reducing felt vibration. As mentioned, you will need to use the OEM rubber "boot" or come up with an aftermarket solution to reduce noise.

Thanks. I am using the rubber boot. I guess the stock shifter is noisier than I remember.
