Are our Corvettes ageing gracefully?
Reading C5 tech and general forums I am becoming concerned with all the issues I come across. I know some early C5's are getting to be two decades old. Do you think the C5 is well within "normal" wear and tear or are they proving to be wearing out faster than they should be. Your thoughts. Greetings, Rob

First production car on the planet to offer active handling ...many still don't have it. Back in 1995 when I got involved in the C5 project.. AH was already on the books to be designed in. Just some FYI . Yawl sensors ???? Yup, way back 20 years ago. This car is still advanced over many new production cars. Some of the AH test data was and still is simply amazing. Ive forgotten so much about this car since I've been retired. Threads like this remind me of just how right we made this car. Dave put most of the money in the Drive train. Yet we still see the clueless complain about poor seats, radio, etc. They talk about column lock... GM could Not put a column lock bypass on any C5, but the design of the CLB was the first thing I put on my car. Anything else would have delayed the launch.
The lock had to be DOT compliant. Overall the car still exists , despite all of the short comings, people seem to bitch about. in my 71 years, I've never seen so many people enamored by a platform that was designed 20 years ago. For those that don't know, this car was a clean sheet of paper, designed in two years, with 6000 parts from two dozen second than third tier suppliers who's production was over seen by GM engineering, all coming together at BG. The C5 was delivered on time and within budget, without the burden of the gas guzzler tax. It was a 100,000 dollar sport car that was delivered for 50 K. 30 MPG on the highway from a car putting out 350 hp. 2 overdrive gears. 20 years ago.

My goodness, a car that is more than 10 years old and is still on the road is aging gracefully. Furthermore, the styling is classic. It will never get old, it's not gimmicky, it's gorgeous.

Yes, the C5 is doing just fine as it ages - it can still turn heads; has proven to be quite reliable; and for a car that is a minimum of 13 model years old, it still is a hoot to drive.

Aging? Not even a little bit. This car is rock solid. Looks contemporary. Drives smooth and fast. Is about to get a Double D sound system. I fricken love this car.

Out of 16 new cars in my life (including 10 new Corvettes), this is the only car that "aged" at all! I never have kept a DD longer than 4 years prior to this and I have driven my C5 every day for over 16 years! Still looks and runs like new!
I still cannot believe I have not purchased another new car in over 16 years! Unbelievable.

Aging? Out in the sea of cars typically on the road, no. However, put a C7 next to it and yes it's aged quite a bit.

I'm obviously quite prejudiced when it comes to C5's. The styling is slick, smooth, and in my opinion, timeless. My black '99 6m vert receives numerous compliments and offers to buy are fairly frequent. At heading into 18 years old it still is squeak and rattle free and with the exception of a fuel leak from the drivers side tank has been trouble free. I still believe a well maintained C5 is the buy of the century, both in beauty and in performance. Everyone have a great day and best wishes!

Judging from the comments I get when I'm out with my 00 , I would have to say yes . Last weekend while I was at the gas station filling up , a guy pulled up with a Nissan GT-R came over and struck up a lenghty conversation over it . He should have gone with the Vette and saved a lot of $$$.

I don't mean to offend anyone who has a C7, but I just don't like it's looks. I'm sorry, but if modern = the transformer look, then I'll take the aged look of the C5 every time...
