Are the back lights to the 'trip, option, reset. etc' buttons on dash to the right of gauges separate for each 'button' are is there a bulb for a group of them ? My top 2 buttons don't light up at night but the others do.
If memory serves me a couple of the buttons use the same bulb for illumination. I replaced all mine with LEDs from JW Motoring (a forum vendor) and am very pleased with the outcome.
It takes a total of 7 LEDS for both sides of the buttons, therefor some buttons share illumination from one bulb.
The 2 top buttons are only illuminated by one bulb. I took my whole dash apart over a year ago to replace one bulb that just fell out all on it's own. Have fun.

I just went to replace a taillight that was out. I pulled the housing, and unpluged the wire to find the bulb was missing... It randomly fell out on it's own and was rolling around in the housing. I plugged it back in and fixed the problem

There is one bulb for each two buttons (three total). I got blue LED's They are bright and non dim-able. I did the door buttons too. You can use any color you want in them.
Unless someone has a trick I'm pretty sure you have to remove the center console, A pillar trim and dash to get the instrument cluster out.

Nope,
You can remove the instrument cluster without having to remove the center console, A-pillar trim and dash cover. You do need to remove the lower dash cover under the steering wheel and remove the nuts that hold up the steering column so that you can pull it down a few inches for clearance. Then there are the two screws in the top of the instrument cluster and two more on the lower section of the instrument cluster.
I have done this several times, but there are likely many "how tos" here on the forum that would be more specific. Here is one,
