i know many of you have RPI products. I'm looking for feedback concerning the durability of the tape that attaches the spoiler. Any tips on the install? I don't want to be heading down the road and watch the spoiler peel off of my car!
I have one on my Z, but I did not install it, I had it done at a body shop back in the early spring and it still looks great.
That said, I did install one similar to this on a BMW a couple of years ago. Two things are key.
Preparation is very important. Make sure the surface is nice and clean, isopropyl alcohol works great. Next, you only want to do the install when the temperature is north of 70 degrees. Heating the surface with a hair dryer aids in adhesion for the 3M tape too.
The tape has held up fine, just make sure to think about the placement. Too close to the outside and it shows, to far in and it doesn't grip. Also the adhesive helper crap they send with to help the tape stick is a PITA to get off, so use it wisely.
Mine's been on for about 7 years. No issues with looseness. The prep is very watery, and if it runs, will harm the paint, so use sparingly. The spoiler seem pretty flimsy before mounting, but becomes very solid once mounted.

Where did you find it it harms the paint? Also how can it only harm the paint if it runs, and not just when its applied?
I have had the RPI spoiler on for 3 summers. Installed myself and no issues at all. Use good quality (3M) tape, clean BOTH surfaces properly and most important make sure everything is really warm! You either want a warm garage or a hot summer day.......over 70 preferably 80+. If you try it cold it will be a disaster. I probably used overkill but used a hair dryer on the spoiler before I installed it and on the joint after I installed it.
A not related hint: once you install it be really careful when using the hatch/trunk. Belt buckles scratch and bellies can shift it around a bit! Try to access the hatch/trunk from the side.

My friend had a rear spoiler on his 2001 vette (don't know what brand) put on with 3M tape, in warm weather, by a reliable corvette shop too, and wallah, at 120MPH on a road near his house, it flew off and destroyed it completely. total loss of $425.00 hard earned dollars. That's why I opted for a bolt on rear spoiler ( Carbon Creations ) $325.00 and I don't need to worry about it ever coming off. Just my opinion...

Maybe they didn't use enough tape in the right locations? I've been sustained 120+ for longer than I'll admit and its rock solid. Either way there is a lot of variance due to install.
