Default Targa Top question

Hi, I just purchased a black 6 speed 1999 C5 Coupe (removable Targa Top). The car is immaculate, with 55,000 miles.

One odd problem. On the roof panel, there is a black gutter on the driver side, but none on the passenger side. Weatherstrips are excellent, and no obvious damage.

The question is: Is the gutter part of the weatherstrip retainer, or a seperate part number? If so, will I have to replace the weatherstrip if I change it (destroy it because it is glued to the retainer).

Any input is appreciated.

There is an outer plastic rain channel, an inner metal retainer, and the weather stripping itself, which are all separate part numbers. Owners frequently change just the plastic rails but there is some discrepancy on the best way to re-install pieces if yours doesn't have the foam tape. You would possibly have to go through something like GM Parts Direct or similar for the non-weather stripping pieces if you want them new. Since the weather strip itself is what is usually replaced vendors typically carry those pieces only.

Thats what I figured. There is no real sign of the gutter being cut, so I figured it was just not reinstalled when some repair was being done.

Thanks again!

That would be my assumption too - the previous owner did not reinstall all the parts when some work was done.
