But i can't complain.
Purchased new in Dec.2010 from Advanced Auto. Went to fire up the car today and it struggled to crank and ended with the familiar tick, tick sound of the solenoid..
6 yrs of use, car sits outside all year long, never had a battery tender on it.
I think I got my monies worth out of it wouldn't you say
I'm sorry for your loss... a good friend is hard to find.

Don't know about money's worth, my previous (Delco) C5 battery lasted 8 years (mind you the one before that, the original Delco, died young when it's case split), the present one (Sears Platinum) is 8 and counting and my wife's Subaru OEM battery lasted a full 10 years. Last "short life" battery I has was a "basic" Diehard, which lasted about 4 years.

8 yrs is pretty good considering the average life is 6 to 7 yrs,
Do you use a battery tender ?
I have three red tops, one is 11 years old and still kicking.. one is 4 years old and the other is seven. all using the rejuvenating cycle from a CTEK charger.
The red top in my C5 finally gave up recently after 11 years, 10 months. They are great batteries. I replaced it with another one.

You did get your monies worth...six years. What is your replacement battery?
I have the red top but I thought they had a bad rap. Why do some people hate them and some have good luck?
My understanding is that you shouldn't let a Red Top go absolutely dead. They're hard to revive if they go that far. I have one in my C-5, and I use an Optima charger to keep it up, during the winter, when the car is stored.
Observing the Optima charger operate, it varies the charge rate, for whatever reason. I will not use any charger that stays hooked up, because I have an attached garage, and will not risk a charger malfunction that could start a fire, and potentially destroy my house. I put the charger on the car every 9-10 days, and it's up to full power in about an hour.

Nope. Don't own one. I do own a 30 odd year old Sears charger for emergencies, but basically the only time it gets used is when a battery is coming to the end of its life - I always try to get the last few months out of them!
I like the Platinum as if we get too much snow and ice, I can leave it for quite a while (like a month) and it still starts right up.
Our other two vehicles have relatively new (3-4 year old) Walmart Maxx batteries, do we will see how they do.
New battery installed today.
AC Delco Pro 86PG 650 CCA, 95 RC. Cost me $145.00
Same spec's as the previous Exide battery I had in the car.
Lasted me 6 yrs hopefully this Delco will last just as long
OWN'01, I have been looking for 2 days now...The only AC Delco that I found via the Delco website shows a 78 6yr AC Delco Pro , 700CCA 120 RC and that battery is listed as a side post. I have top post terminals and the 04 has the 86 Group so 86PG is what I put in.
