I did the Rodney Dickman headlight repair on the passenger side today. It now works great and the drivers side started grinding yesterday so it's next. My question is this; I somehow broke one of the plastic tabs on the outside of the headlight assembly where the cover screws onto the assembly. I remember hearing a snap when I was putting it back on. I wasn't even pressing or anything so I think it was already primed to break. Is there a fix for this because the same tab is broken on the drivers side. The rear tab of the headlight cover is broken on the drivers side too so I'm worried these covers might fly off on the highway.
Thanks guys
that holds the cover on. Mine was broken when I bought mine and I tried an epoxy glue that I bought local and it just broke again. I ended up getting JB Weld (liquid not putty) and wrapping it around the part and it has held since then. You might try Rhino Glue. I have used it as recommended on the forum to glue my rear window back to the convertible top and it is holding very good.
A little trick I use is the mesh drywall tape. It has a self stick back which makes it handy to stay in place until you put whatever epoxy or glue on for the repair. The tape adds a lot of strength and reinforcement to the repair. I try to use more than one piece/layer, then a thin first coat of epoxy to coat the tape and fill in all the little squares. After drying, you can add additional tape if desired or needed and or just more epoxy. I have fixed many items using this method including the mounting tab of the under hood light, windshield washer bottles and even a crack in the bug deflector on the hood of my dually.
Just scuff up the repair area first with a scotch bright pad or sandpaper. This has always worked for me.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,
