Lighten your car by 35 lbs! I been using one in my '16 Z51 for about 6 months 6,000 miles. Everyone said my car would explode/dick fall off So far no excitement and it is an almost daily driver.

I recommend leaving the new battery in it and saving yourself some money. I bought an Exide battery 4 years ago for 89 bucks and it has worked perfectly ever since. If you are worried about leaking put a 5 dollar acid neutralizing mat under it.

Never thought about a mat or even a battery box.

If you have a new battery and it's good, working fine, why do you want another one? Do you think the electrons in a newer battery are any better or stronger? Your car will start or run better? And what is a "dry" cell?
There are so many other things you can waste your money on that serve a better purpose than replacing a perfectly good new battery with something that's no better. As long as the battery works, leave it alone.

This is what I use, but the battery doesn't leak anyway.

The car can't tell if its an $89 battery or a $200 battery. It runs the same.

Its called preventive maintenance. Batt might leak in future and don't need acid on things beneath it.

If you are really that worried about a leaking battery, get the mat or a battery box as mentioned above.

Kind of hard to justify replacing a brand new battery.

the leaking battery thing was a problem back then..I really think the newer ones have that problem resolved. I don't recall reading on any forum that a replacement side terminal battery leaked.

Thanks ET, your endorsement goes a long way with me. I just ordered an Optima red top. Besides the reliability it is good to know this eliminates the problem of acid leaking onto the wires and components below the battery compartment!

It probably has been resolved. The problem is, you spend, what, $150-$175 for a brand new AGM battery? And while the lead acid battery probably won't leak, if by chance it does, it can cause what, $2,500+ in damage to electrical components? Everybody does their own cost/benefit analysis, but to me, replacing a lead acid battery with a ~$150 AGM battery to ensure there is 0% chance you'll pay $2,500+ for damaged electrical components seems like a very wise decision in the long run.

For me, the 5 dollar acid neutralizing battery mat brings me to the same level of confidence that there will be no damage even in the rare event that the battery leaks. To each their own.

Default Red Top again

Partially because ET says so but also because my "5" is set up requiring both top post And side post. there is a wire to the top positive for the radio; not my choice but it's how I got her.

I've been searching for info on which battery to buy and many people claimed the optimas were pricey but they all seem to be around $200.

BTW, I'm replacing an 8/10 Red Top.
