The definitive MOMO steering wheel on a C5 thread.

I've looked into it, well over $500 to do it right.

There's a way of checking to find out if it actually works.

And stuff them in this (or similar, Cobalt airbags seem to be cheaper and the same fit)

And you need PN 26074286 to make the wheel fit (the price of this alone is prohibitive to me).
Ultimately, cobbling together an explosive device to sit in front of my face was less appealing than removing it entirely. The Momo solution is much cheaper, better (because it's still smaller diameter yet), and possibly safer because who knows what that g-van bag will do in the event of a crash.

Oh, I haven't done it, just going off research. There's a thread on S-10 forum where a dude swapped a C6 wheel in his S-10 that has full documentation.

Which is why I went with the Momo. Airbags are awesome...when engineered and designed with the car. GM spends untold sums of money on safety testing, so cobbling something together just doesn't work for me.
Either accept the risks of running with no airbag, deal with the big wheel, or buy a new car. That's how I see it.

Its not that expensive if you shop on ebay you can do it all for about 300. Mine was higher cause I wanted a new wheel.
My airbag is wired in (yes transfer the bag internals...stupid simple takes 5 mins). Its a pretty easy (but time consuming) swap. The system self checks, I have no Airbag light. Hope to never find out if it really works, but I also drive pre airbag vehicles so not really a show stopper for me.

I've done the C6 wheel into a C5.

Before the C5, I drove a number of pre-airbag cars as fun cars. To me, the risk of no airbag is one I'm willing to assume vs. having an untested explosive device sitting in front of my face.

Safety Car
I clicked in for general information and thought the addition of a safety warning completely valid, you never know who is reading the posts or their skill level.
A couple of examples. I was in traffic court recently, and a young woman didn't understand traffic school was the way to go , she thought it was just a simple choice as explained, you pick one or the other, and she picked write the check and leave. A little additional information, and I had a good deed under my belt.
My winner in dumb *** in need of advice was a guy I met who, after he got a tax rebate, bought a beautiful wooden lake boat, planning to sail in the open ocean to Hawaii.
The full wooden boat was designed for day sailing on aline lakes in SWitzerland and had very nice lines, the reason the guy bought it. I talked him out of ocean voyages, he thought he could install rails and canvas and dodge under that as protection from the waves in the open ocean.
Not a smart guy.
I couldn't talk him out of cutting a hole in the hull to install an outboard motor in the boat , effectively ruining it in one stroke.
If my contribution steams some guy because it is not about steering wheel love and care, sorry. I try to contribute something when I post and my car skills are low, while the hot air supply is seemingly endless.

You found the upper steering shaft for less than $150? That seems to be the killer, the price of that thing is hovering around $200 everywhere. That's ridiculous to pay, IMO.

Yes I purchased a whole column and just removed the shaft from a matching vehicle.

So if you were really saavy, looks like it could be done for somewhere in the $300 range as you said. Interesting...
