Howdy , so this is my first Corvette a 98 coupe. I noticed the other day after having changed the presets on the radio that they were gone . I cycleed through the bands thinking I was on FM 2 maybe but I wasn't . Also the former owner has 02 rims on the car and said this is the reason the TPMS isn't working . He included a new one but had not installed it yet. I haven't been able to find out where the old one is located and how to swap it out looking around online. I also didn't have a keyless remote. After much looking I discovered that for some reason the 97-01 remotes are quite a bit costlier because there don't appear to be any aftermarket one's being made . I finally broke down and paid $85 on ebay today . I suppose I'm curious as to why these year cars have this odd issue but it's not really important . Thanks in advance for any info
No need for the keyless remote... you will find that after a while it will be a PITA or you will turn it off. You need the gen I tire pressure monitors, you need four of them one for each wheel. Don't know why the previous owner would give you just one, and you have to be sure its a gen one sensor... the Gen One sensors are very expensive.. If you paid 85 dollars for a used remote? that was a steal if it works.
Welcome to the forum.. The Gen 1 tire pressure sensors are about 125 each. Also these sensor have a date stamp on them, they are good for about ten years but some have done better... but the original design and test put that at 8 to 10 years.

I replaced my whole system with this kit, was cheaper when I bought it, but I am happy to have the tire monitoring system and key fobs working as they should !! https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...rformance.html

If the '02 wheels have the tire pressure sensors for an '01-04 C5, they will not work with an '99-00 car. Sorry, but the sensors for your car are much more expensive.

deplorableC5, the fob will not work with the newer 2001-up keyless module. the replacement fob for the newer module are not expensive. I picked up two aftermarket ones for @ 30.00$. the plug on your 98 will not plug into the newer module. gm in its wisdom changed the terminal design. hope this helps
Evil Twin , Thanks for those suggestions . I'm sorry I used the wrong nomenclature. I meant to say the TPMS module itself . Now I don't know about the sensors themselves. The tire stems are all metal as a local Vette guy I know asked me about so I looked and they were . I'm guessing that the sensors are the later ones and it just needs the module swapped out but this is all new to me . I just went out and got the module he sent with the car . It's part #10312535 but I'm wondering if it will actually have the same plug in as the original . Where exactly is the module located ? Pounder , thanks for the heads up on that link . That looks like a good deal and I may have to go that route eventually. Jack , thanks for that info as well. So do you have any idea if the module can be swapped or not ? Sounds like that would make it waaaay too easy and things just don't go that way usually!
Edit: Well , I'm thinking I made a mistake buying that fob now . According to the thread involving this from 2012 if I swap the module the fob I ordered probably won't work . Is that correct? Also I found the thread on the location of the module
if it's the RFA module it's up under the drivers rear fender(inside)(it's hard to see, you have to pull the carpet down) and the kit I got had the harness to hook it up to a older car.
I have owned over 160 automobiles and less than a dozen had TPMS. Kinda like a back up camera, how can you live without it? That being said there are states I formerly lived in that require the TPM system to be working without the fault light on the dash. So the answer depends on where you live or whether this feature is required for the state safety inspection. I went many miles in my 55 Chevy without TPMS
