Mileage depends on many variables. 10K miles shouldn't be a problem (I did it on my 2000 FRC)
Simple Green, sprayed liberally, will do the cleaning trick. Tip: leave plenty of time in your day for the washed and reverse-flushed filter to dry before re-oiling. That's a lot of cotton that has to air dry. (Think of a soaked washcloth that you can't wring out!) Some guys hook the filter to a shop vac and "blow dry" it, but I don't want to listen to that thing running for an hour or two.
