Default How much to pay?

I want a cheap road course car. Ive read that it should be a c5z06 or z51 C6. Prices for vetted are all over the place. I offered a friend $12K for a a clean 01 with 160K. He said it was too low. Is it? Also I'll take any suggestions on a high mileage cheap road course car.

Phoenix racing usually has several cars which they prepared for racingg ON SALE at their website. i would strongly recommend that you buy one of their properly setup cars, OR a (recent) class winning racecar. You will save much money by buying one that is already setup rather than buying a streetcar and modifying it yourself. Most of the racers have been going tot he C6 Grand Sport, so the C5 Z06 is a VERY affordable track car at this point in time.

Although buying a cheap high mile unit might seem attractive, and I've never tracked a car... personally I'd think starting with a lower mile unit might stand up to the abuse with less costly repair bills. No?
If you don't care what it looks like, you might find a unit around that price.

I would spend a little more up front to have a better performing car and one that is already setup where the big $$ has been spent. Prob gonna run you 15-25k to find the right car. If you buy stock....you will spend a lot more than that...unless you don't mind.

FRC or C5Z are going to be your best bang for the buck from what I have been reading. I have a c5z but put a deposit on a FRC for when the snow clears to go check out. My C5Z went too crazy wih straight line mods so will be using the FRC.

Also from taking to some guys at VIR and one auto x I been to, a nice car with good tires and great brakes is the best start to get used to the car and to get used to driving it.

This is of course if your just getting into the sport like I am, but if your more experienced than yea go for a car that is already done, Corvette suspension parts aren't cheap

I recently paid a little over $15k for a super clean MY 03 Z with 103k on it. High mileage but a one owner car which looks like it has 20k on it. Followed the market for six months or so before I purchased and felt good about what I paid. My plan is the same as yours - wanted a good but relatively cheap DE car. Will end up spending $3k or so on fluids, brakes, wheels and tires putting me close to $20k before I hit the track.

The he cars I've seen for $12k are typically high miles and salvage title.

Yea, you made a good purchase, 03's are better than 01's Also this car had 160K so of course its been rode hard and put up dry.

Why even bother with a Z06? If it's gonna be a track only car just get an FRC. Or you can probably get a Z06 with a previous wreck or salvage title for cheap.
