Default Hud

Was looking at the HUD outside the car through the windshield today. It has a clear screen over it for protection. Looks like there is a place for a screw to keep it in place. Am I right!!!!!!!!! Maybe someone took it out for cleaning. Looks like it would be a pia to put back.

If there is a screw and it is missing, yeah I would think it is a PITA to put it back in. IIRC, you need to take the dash pad off at a minimum.

Got to looking at it closer. It's not for a screw. Looks like some kind of sensor. In my old age I need to start measuring twice and cut once.

Some time ago (maybe a year) Form member changed the bezel of the HUD without pulling the dash pad. Guess its a little like changing the Oil Pressure Sensor without moving forward the intake manifold.

There are 2 10mm bolts that hold the HUD to the frame. No screws to hold the unit to the frame. There are 4 screws that hold the upper and lower HUD housings together. Just fixed mine last week!

Sorry for the confusion...I was talking about the bezel and not the unit.

I have my dash out right now for some interior upgrades, and I removed my HUD as well to polish the lens, if you need pictures I can post some when I get home. Mine is a 2003 and Hud was held in place with 2 nuts & one bolt. I noticed some dust inside mine on the mirror, so I may even pull it apart to clean the inside as well, car only has 9000 miles.

Pictures would be great. I see mine has a dusty mirror and needs cleaning. Looks like a major project for early spring. Thanks

Here are some photos, the Hud mounts on the 2 studs & there is a notch on the steering column bracket that holds the back of the assembly with a bolt, you can see the extension in the lower right of the 2nd photo where the bolt goes & in the 3rd photo the plastic lens looks like it is attached on 3 sides with thin double sided tape & the rear of the lens is not attached which may be where the dust gets into the housing, & the lens is very thin, I used Plexus to polish mine.

Thanks for the pics. Wow, I can't imagine pulling that dash apart. Believe I will let the dust there.

Yeah when you do it the first time it is a little intimidating, once you know how it all comes apart & you take your time it's not quite as bad. And I always take pictures of the trim pieces removed so I remember where all of the clips are.
