Default Aftermarket Seat Help

Hey everybody,

So I am in the market to replace my factory c5 z06 seats for something a little more comfortable/performance driven. The issue I am facing right now is finding a seat that will fit in my car. I have looked at a ton of different posts here on the forum, but it seems that there are a few posts that contradict each other. I just want a straight forward answer of what seats fit and will work with the OEM three point seat belt.

So what I am hoping the good people of the corvette forum will do for me is just post what performance seat they have in their car, without getting to personal height and weight. Personally I am 6’3’’ tall, 250lbs, and have a size 38 waist.

Thanks in advance

I love talking about seats and have some experience with retrofitting different seats in mine.
The first question is do you want a street style seat that will recline or a fixed back seat more geared for track use?

Reclining seats there are very few options that just drop in. More options are available if you are willing to do a C6 seatbelt conversion.

Most fixed back seats will drop right in as there is no reclining mechanism to interfere with the seatbelt reel on the floor.

So adding on to SuperTom’s post: I currently have a set of Corbeau A4 reclinable seats in my 2000 coupe. I mounted them following the attached thread that shows how to modify the Corbeau seat brackets to enable placing the seats on the correct side and just clear the C5 floor mounted seat belt recoil mechanism.
http://www.toquez06.com/corbeau.html (this thread will show both ways to mount the A4's without the bracket mod and with)

My current A4's.

However, because the bracket modification moves the seat further toward the center console it does limit the travel of the seat backward. At 6’3” you may not be able to move the seat far enough back for your comfort. I am 6’ and it is just enough for me.

The alternative with the A4’s is to leave the bracket as is but reverse mount the seats, that is to mount the driver’s seat on the passenger side and vice versa. However, this leaves the recline levers for each seat between the seat and the center console and difficult to access without attaching a ring/pull to the lever.

The third option is to convert to the C6 seat belts which eliminates the floor mounted recoil mechanism and frees up enough room to mount the A4’s or other similar seats on the correct side and without moving the seat any closer to the center console. However, this does mean you have to modify the B-Pillars to remove the area that originally covered the floor mounted recoil mechanism.

I am in the process of converting mine to the C6 seat belts and replacing the A4’s with a set of seats from Braum (below), once I get some color samples from Braum to make a decision.

At this point I am feed up with the stock seats, so I will consider any seat fixed or reclining as long as I will have enough leg space. I have not looked into C6 seat belt conversions so I would like to stay away from that for the time being

You may find this interesting, though I am not endorsing the music or the lack of detail in the video, but it will give you a visual.

I've been sick of my seats since I fist test drove a C5.

Just not enough to spend the dough to replace them. But the C5 seats are just plain awful for any sort of spirited driving.

I have Corbeau Evo X seats, and they look and feel great. My only gripe is that I find they dont breath like the factory leather seats do. I tend to get a hot sticky back in the summer heat, that I didnt in the factory seats. Still love em...

I have the Corbeau A4s. They are nice, but I have done a lot of mods to them to make the fit correctly. (they still have to come out one more time for some more modifications.

I am 6" 250 lbs and 36-38" waist depending on the day. The seats are snug in the shoulders, but I don't mind so much. I consider it a trade-off in getting the 1" shaved base to get my vision out of the sun-visor.

I was hesitant to modify the trim pieces, but I am so excited after feeling real seats in my car, that I am no longer afraid to cut the factory pieces.

Can you elaborate a bit more into the mods you've needed to do? I was under the impression that sites like CorvetteMods sells the seats with the C5 correct bases and that it's basically plug and play. Is this not the case?

The Evo seats look nice, but I want to get away from leather. I'm too leery on a fixed back setup since I wouldn't want to be stuck with a seatback position I'm not in love with.

I put the Corbeau A4s into my C5. I swapped the left/right seats, and have no issue getting to the recline levers between the seat and the center tunnel. I made no mods to the interior, and just moved the seatbelt receptacle to the Corbeaus. I have the black and grey microsuede. I used the Corbeau brackets, and added a 1 inch stack of fender washers under the two front bolts, to raise the front a bit. The seats go all the way back
I am 5"11, 38 inch waist, and 230 pounds, and love the comfort of these proper sport seats, which the C5 should have had from the factory, rather than the Chevy Cavaliere seats that it came with.

Are your seats centered? I saw the link above some mention of the seats being offset but maybe that's due to the person adjusting his seats so they weren't swapped, the link wasn't 100% clear.

How is the microsuede wearing? I like that as an upgrade over the base material and definitely don't want leather. I personally also like how the Corbeau logo is embroidered
into the seat as well.

My seats are centered in each passenger compartment "tunnel", they are not offset. The Microsuede is wearing well, just vacuum it off once in a while. I have had these seats now for about 12 years or so, they are holding up fine. I actually like them better than the Competition Seats (upgrade option) in my C7 Grand Sport.

They bolt in OK out fo the box. I did take pictures as I went and after I went back to do a write up, I realized that the camera settings were all wrong and my pictures are terrible.

So, yes, once I take them back out for a few more mods, I will go into more detail. and yes they are plug and play, just not up to the level of fit that I expected.

What do you mean moved the receptacle to the Corbeaus? I have A4s in and I love them, I did the driver/passenger swap, but teh issue I have is the factory seatbelt retracting appropriately, seemingly due to the shoulder area of the seat interfering.

Have you noticed this as well?

You have to transfer the seat belt socket/receptacle from the original GM seat to the Corbeau seat....you know.....the thing with the red belt release button....one bolt.

I have no issues with the seat belt retraction, no interference with the seat shoulder area.

And yes, the Corbeau A4 barely fits in there, it is a tight fit against the door-sill plastic trim where the belt reel bulge is.
