Most of the participants know exactly what they are doing and have done their homework. Generally they didn't get that money by being foolish.

If one spends the time to look at the major auction results over the last year, you can clearly see the trend of what is happening to the C5 value. Thus the articles written and the prognostications by those who are in the field for a living. I simply don't understand why people would not see the correlation between the auction market and the street value. As the old saying goes "A rising sea lifts all boats". There are a large number of dealers who when they see the values being reflected on the auction block are going to start buying the vehicles off the street as long as the spread is there.
I agree with most of what you said. It seems to me the BJ auction is a bit tainted with true value at times. Mecum, Russo, Gooding, etc seem to trend closer to the market. That being said, I think that some C5 values will hold better than others, and some nice examples will appreciate over the next decade, but todays mindset of "collectability" is common place where it was never given a though when the muscle car era was in full swing. Using the about Z16 car, it pulled that money as it was the last C5 Z off the line. A never used example didn't sell at Mecum, bidding stopped at 40K. There are people will to lay out the money for certain cars, but time will tell if the C5 will ever realize collector status. All that being said, if anyone wants to give me stupid money for my Z16, I am listening. Cheers!

It would be useless to try to guess what is in the mind of a bidder, especially one with lots of money. Auctions are a totally different animal than regular buy-sell.
Could be a childhood memory, could be the first car he kissed a girl in, could be... The reasons are endless (and mostly have nothing to do with common sense)

If he is he's probably afraid to post here after this thread . Hey, if the car makes him happy who cares what he paid for it. As mentioned it only helps the value of the rest of ours.

Really does help the value of all our cars, I am selfishly asking because I have the first C5 Z06 that was sold to the public!

It looks like stock C5 Z06 is really holding values now. I have CE 1963 with 7500 miles on it. I am not looking to sell but if I did I would look to get more than I paid for it.
