Ok, I'm torn on this, looking for what the car is worth.
Very clean 1998 white vert with 38,000 miles. Well maintained, auto, new custom exhaust, new brakes and tires. One 'low tire sensor' needs replacing and the 'front passenger turn signal' is out, otherwise can't find any problems. Dealer owned and otherwise stock.

I'm not a Corvette expert but I do own a 1997 Coupe purchased about 6 months ago. I would guess the 98 to be worth 16K. I always purchase private party because it eliminates the sales tax in Arizona where I live. I'm amazed at how many examples there such as the one you're considering with only 2k miles/year. Many Corvette garage queens still out there.
Just a thought... Look at Porsche 996 C2 MY2000-2004 for a little more money and a way better car.
Where are you at? If you are where it can be driven year round offer them somewhere between private owner and trade in based on KBB?
Minnesota, not a year round place for a vette. The lowest they would go was 16.9k. Can't find a nice low mileage C5 vert for under 20k on craigslist. This area seems like retail prices are high. Finding a low mileage manual vert is almost impossible. I really want to stay away from cars with 100+k on them. I can't afford 25k for a nice C6 right now.

That's what I figured, thanks. Backed out of the deal a couple weeks ago due to other debt. The loan was no problem and how can you beat 6 years at 2.99%. Just nervous about adding more debt that puts the squeeze on me. I'm the process of selling a Moto Guzzi Norge with 4,600 miles right now, and of course it's winter (lot's of luck)! Looks like I'm going to take a big bath on that one.

When and if you get back into looking try expanding your search area. There is actually a fair number of 6m verts for sale out there. Just for grins 'n giggles try getting on to "cargurus.com" and plug in 6m vert in the years your interested in. I guarantee you'll find a number of them. I went nationwide to find exactly what I wanted and in the end got exactly that (6m vert, very low miles). It did require some traveling but well worth the trip. Remember that great maintenance and no accidents will usually trump low mileage alone. Just my opinion but winter is the time to get best prices on vettes, especially verts, as prices begin climbing as warmer and sunny seasons approach. Good luck and best wishes!
A friend of mine found a nice 2001 6 speed convertible through a private party last summer for $18,500. It had 40,000 miles. It was here in MN. Be patient. By the way, if you have a problem with the TPMS system on a '98 I believe you would have to update to the newer system. Not cheap.
$15,325, an extra $4k is included for low mileage. NADA usually nails it right, good luck. In case you forgot it's winter in MN. Make an offer, stand firm and be ready to walk. There are plenty of C5's available. Their price is too close to newer models you would rather own.
I am in Arizona but have bought all my sports cars (3 NSX's, Porsche and Vette) east of the Mississippi. Another thought...... Corvettes at Carlisle in Pennsylvania (August) has an area for sellers. Get there early as the good and great deals go fast! ...... or just buy my pristine C5 so I can get another 996.
Thanks for all the replies, yes, be patient. I need to calm down and take my time. Keith from Colorado (member of this forum) had a very nice 2000 vert and was willing to let it go for $15.5k. Traveling distance is difficult for me, but that may be my best bet.
Anyone with a nice C5 6m vert for sale within 500 miles of Minneapolis give me a shout as I think I could talk my nephew into flying me to the local airport. 17k is pushing my budget.
A manual vert is also going to be a rare combo, I think. Manual's in general can be sparse, add in the vert option and the numbers get low. You might need to expand your search area.

$12,000 would be the right price.
$16,000 is full retail, with a $1000 or 2 added on.
You can buy 2000 and older vettes around here (50,000 miles or less) for $11,000 all day long.

Not in Minnesota. $11,000 will buy you something that needs attention with 135,000 + miles. I've been looking off and on for a over a year and have never seen a nice C5 with less than 50,000 miles for $11,000, not even close. That's frustrating, why is the market price so high here?
Now the car does have a custom exhaust which is a must because stock they are too quite for me. I'm looking at an additional $1,500 minimum.

At 2.99 why not. The plan is to sell the C5 in the spring of 2019, when I can afford a nice C6. Otherwise I have to wait. I don't want to wait another two years as I'm not a young man anymore.
But, I know what you mean, it's going to be a 20 year old car next year.....

If you change your mind on the years you are looking at, I have been thinking about selling my '04 black on black Z51 coupe. Both tops and fully loaded. But it will take a little more than you have to spend right now. Can send you more details if you are interested. Good luck with the search. That is half the fun!

Why not travel and get a nice car for a better price with a "free vacation" included?
