Yesterday, on my way to the gun club, it was a bright sunny cool day. Cruising down the suburban highway to my club, about 12 miles away, IM in the right lane, just enjoying the car. Its Sunday morning, few cars on the road at this time, I notice a few cars staggered in my rear view mirror.. I see a car weaving through the stagger of well spaced cars. Running not at accessive speed but passing all the cars behind me.. Paying little attention, but being away someone is driving aggressively.
I look at my outside rear view mirrowand he is pacing me at my left quarter panel.. I've seen this many times.. A driver checking my car out but trying to be inconspicuous. IM doing about 45 on the posted suburban highway, and he is clocking me. A few cars up ahead in both lanes. but with 8 to ten car length away. This guy is still pacing me... for about 1/2. I see in the mirror is a big grill Mercedes... traffic ahead is slowing down as we approach a light . the guy creeps forward and we are now side by side with traffic ahead in both lanes . ( If you think this is going to be a street race story, get your money back at the door ) .
OK light is green again and traffic is spreading out... cars ahead are now 6 to 8 car lengths but this guy is still pacing me and he is in the go fast lane. next thing I hear is the beep, and some yelling.. my window is up . I looki over and see his passengers side window is down and he is saying something ( cant make it out ).. I rill my window down. not looking at him but watching the road ahead.. he yells again, I look over,, its guy about 30ish I guess.. I cant understand him, so I turn down the radio, and yell back I cant under stand you.. Now that I can hear the sweet sound of my Corsa I can also hear the sweet sound of his car.. He yells over to me " Hey Man Your car is fukkking awesome ".. Now we have slowed down in the voice exchange to about 40 mph.. cars ahead are now 50 yards ahead... no traffic behind. I yelled back thank you... gave him a thumbs up and increased my speed back to 45, and he did the same and kept pacing me. IM up to 50 mph... typical for this road with no traffic.. he still paces me and with No attempt to challenge me .. this goes on for about a mile.. and then he beeps and speed off and makes a left turn into the mall. I noticed as he passed the back emblem. He was driving a beautiful ( looked New possibly 2016 C63 S AMG .. black. Sounded really good.
The End.
Had a good day at the range.. shot my EDC Kimber 45 ACP... and one of my skeet guns... over and under 410.. shot two rounds with friends Had lunch and came home and played with the wife.
I actually felt pretty good yesterday... Wife and I went out and did a few hours of Animal rescue together and had a late dinner at one of our favorite places.
That sounds like a heckuva day ET! It's funny what people will do sometimes when they see a corvette and yours appears to be one super shiny example that probably garners some attention. Congrats on a good day out!
You would think a young guy ( to me ) with a 100,000 + dollar car might stick his nose up at an old guy with 20 year old car. But in this case, and in so many of my other encounters. Some car people are just good car people. Its always a plus when someone can make your day. Especially a young guy with a good taste in his own choice of rides. I think that car is 550 HP. The exhaust note was fantastic.
It's a good feeling to have something people notice. I thought you were going to say it was a cop trying to set you up for a ticket righting party.
Just an FYI.. Ive been driving for 55 years.. I've never received a moving violation citation. EVER. I have been stopped seven or eight times. Many years ago when traffic stops were not under the scrutiny of political correctness.
A few times when the cop just wanted to taka look at my car ( I always had a unique car.. Back then a traffic stop to check license and registration was common. Back in the 60's / 70's.
a few times for suspicion of speeding. Now I am the slowed driver on the street.... Just stylin and profilin

You got me by a few years. I'm almost at 2,000,000 miles safe driving. be careful not to get a ticket for obstructing traffic, that would be hard a explain around here.

As amazing as your car looks, I'm surprised this doesn't happen every time you take it out, regardless what the other person is driving.
I does happen all the time.. not the same exact situation, I've had people follow me into the mall, into bank parking lots, at the gym.. If I am getting into or out of my car, and I make eye contact with anyone... I mean anyone.. men women , kids.. they always have something t say.. Its flattering and embarrassing all at the time.. But since Ive had this car since I retired. IM never to embarrass to talk about it..
One time these two Old ladies stop me as I was getting into my car from a local popular seniors restaurant. They were going in. they stopped me as they passed between the parked cars.. I told this story a few times before, so Ill just give the sort version.. these two old ladies new a lot about cars.. I found out that they were both engineers both in their late 70, and very well kept. they were going for. breakfast. I find out that they were both fighter pilots. Not combat but ferry pilots. they even showed me a picture. we talked for 45 minutes in the parking lot, about Corvettes and P-51 Mustangs. The Car.. My car brought about that encounter. I have hundreds of storys like that... My car get much more attention now, then when it was new.
The End

Really, I mean really. In one day you got to drive your vette, shoot guns, AND play with your wife. Those three activities are what I live for. Not necessarily in that order. Am I envious? Hell Yes. Lucky guy!
And yes, some cops pull cars over just to get a closer look at their ride. Not saying that I did that, but it might have happened, once or twice or..................
You have a nice carry set up there too.
I'm not buying it Bill. You can tell me, did you take him?
Nice story.
Glad you had a good day!
Enjoy.
It was Sunday morning people where going and coming from Church.
One other story about my car and Old people and my gun club.. we have 5500 active members. lots of former military, 3000 seniors. men and women.
One Sunday morning as I pulled up, there was a guy sitting outside at a picnic table by himself.. I did not know him. he was in his late 70's.. he had that grumpy old man look..
Everyone at the range is fairly nice, but we have a fair share of redneck and aholes. I was walking up to the club house and restaurant, and nodded his head as if to greet me ( a common thing ) but said " You are way to old for that car " and I just laughed and gave him the Patrick Swazey " Roadhouse " retort..." Opinions Vary " and walked in the door. I wanted to say. I hope your face doesn't freeze in that position, you'd scare a lot of women and children. I had it locked and loaded but chose to just move on.

I have noticed that car people and gun people are for the most part very nice. Many of the car people I know are into guns as well.
Your Kimber is a very nice piece.
