I think it is necessary to remove the front axle and the transmission and it is the labor which is expensive. Then if everything is removed it is better to change what could break.

you mean the steering rack in front(not the axle(none) ?? at this point I would do a complete overhaul with a new clutch !! Sure many more will chime in !!!
