The opposite can also be true, depending on what people know about a given marque. Before selling my Porsche 930 last Spring, pretty much the only people at local shows or C&Cs that would give it a second glance were those with an affinity and understanding of air-cooled Porsches (particularly those of the boosted variety). I'd park with my Corvette buddies and watch as kids drooled over their $15K-30K cars while the six-figure granddaddy of German supercars sat there unappreciated by nearly all - including most Corvette owners.

Two weeks ago I traded a 2000 SL500 straight across for the car in the photo below. And dontcha know, now everybody thinks I have an expensive car ...

That's a great looking car, and a great photograph using the right light.

That magic hour ( photo term ) of light adds a little mystery to the shot .. But that hood makes that car stand out among the clean ones that don't have one.. That hood looks like God designed it.. But I was very honored to call him friend. The Guy who designed that hood, Mike Mickoz.

Beautiful car you have there
Good luck

Not knowing the Corvette market well at all (yet, at least), it would seem that if there's Holy Grail of hoods, this car wears one - and I was fortunate enough to stumble onto it.

Back in the seventies I purchase my first Corvette, a used 68 vert. My co-workers thought it was a bad idea. They bought brand new Oldsmobiles and Mercurys. Two years later I bought a 69 wrecked project car. Friends thought I was the rich kid with too many toys. A few years later their vehicles were traded in for pennies on a dollar and my Corvettes were both worth more than my purchase price. After owning eight of these it became obvious the depreciation was less than the average car and I couldn't afford to not own one. They can become a money pit with mods if you are so inclined to keep the economy and vendors alive. Other than being not practical for a growing family simple arithmetic not done by many can change one's perception about Corvette ownership.

Speaking of perceptions, I think we as C5 owners think they are worth more than they really are too. I'm guilty.
For instance, I looked up the private party KBB value of my 02. Even though she only has 36,000 miles on her, she is worth like $15,375 in very good condition. My perception is that she is worth more. There is no way in hell would I sell her for that. I don't think I'd take even twice that price for her. But reality is, I would be lucky to get that $15,375 if I traded her in on a new C7.

KBB hasn't been very accurate on these cars. Look at what one sells for on their sight.
