Default Hvac technical question

I'm installing a CD player and I have three preouts on the back. With the dash kit and the rcas out the back I'm about 3/4" from flush mounting. I've tried 90* rca adapters and adding the spacer to bring the CD player forward. I still don't have enough room. My next and I think only option is to cut into the hvac box behind the CD player. My main question is, what is behind it and how much room is back there? I plan on cutting out a big enough hole to get the space I need then create a pocket to reinstall back into the hole I cut into the hvac.

If I recall correctly right behind that is the space the air diverter flap passes through. It may sweep far enough away that you may not have an issue.

However I would look for a different set of RCA right angle adapters. I made a custom set for my install so nothing had to be cut.

Default Don't do it

That flat panel is part of the main ducting that routes the air from the blower motor. If you cut into it you will breaching the main duct and AC and heat will leak from the cuts.

I included a pic that another member put up so you can see what it looks like under the dash pad.

HTH,
Dan...

I'm about to do this too. If I may ask, how deep is your head unit?
