I'm a new member from Norway. I already have 2 C4 Corvettes, but today I went to check out a C5. The C5 is suppose to be a 1998 Pace Car. The car was very nice with only about 40,000 miles on it and I really like to buy it, but I want to sure it is a real Pace Car. So I need some help to Decode the VIN. VIN is: 1G1YY32GXW5118066
I read here that CF Member Sponge Vette - that he can run the VIN through the GM VIS. I hope he or anybody else can help me out so I can get my first C5, hopefully a real Pace Car !
Suggest that you double check the last 6 digits you posted for the VIN. If it is 115806 rather than the 511806 you posted then it is an Indy Pace Car that was exported. Here is a link to the C5 Registry VIN information for all 1998 Indy Pace cars:

Okey we bought the 1998 Pace Car and we still like to find out more about it. If nobody likes to help, whats the use being a member and owner of a very rare Corvette?

We all like to help. but it's obviously necessary to provide the correct information.
One thing that you might want to to do is to visit the National Corvette Museum website and order the window sticker and build sheet for your car. Go here to order the documents.
Another thing you can do is to locate the Service Parts Identification sticker (also called the "RPO sticker") and post the 3-digit codes. Each code identifies something about how the car was built, what individual options were placed on the car as it went down the Bowling Green Assembly Line. This decal will also have the paint codes for your car so if it should need repainting for any reason. the "WA Code" found at the bottom of the sticker will allow a body shop to get the correct color paint.

The Pace Car model isn't particularly "rare" as there were 1136 made. They may be scarce in Norway, but here in the States they're not hard to find. Come to Corvettes@Carlisle and you'll find 8 or 10 of them. If you've seen one, you've seen'em all.
