Default Headlight bulb change

Ok before I get flamed all I am trying to do is to replace the OEM bulbs with Sylvania Ultra's. My problem is in trying to follow the instructions in the owners manual. "Turn the headlights on and immediately switch to the parking lights". This is supposed to hang up the headlights half open so you can a access the bulbs from the rear. Oh yeah ?

I tried it maybe fifteen times and I couldn't catch them half open, what's the trick? Is it possible (two people) to trick the lights by disconnecting the battery while cycling them up and down ? Thanks, bob

Unless there is something wrong that process should work. Turn the headlights on and wait until the lights come up and light up. Count to 10 then turn the headlight switch on the stalk back one notch to the parking light setting. The headlights should turn off but stay in the upright position.

If all else fails you can open the hood and turn the manual headlight handles until the lights come up (takes a while). Don't mess with the headlight switch or parking lights at all.

With the lights up but the switch to the parking light setting, you should be able to gain access to the bulbs. And the warning that 8VETTE7 mentions is one to be considered.
