Thanks for posting up the template. Will come in handy if I ever need to replace my current cover.

Thank you for the post.
I have been searching for this template, for a while. Anyone want to throw out some material ideas, that would make this really unique from the rest of the crowd. I was thinking of making one out of a sheet of Formica or perhaps a sheet of mirrored Lexan. Maybe even a carbon fiber wrap.

Awesome. Been waiting for a good template.

I can think of a few ways to make a good DIY cover; cut something out of lexan, frost it, and add a border. Or maybe lexan and then do a good carbon fiber vinyl wrap. Lots of possibilities.

I've noticed a lot of battery covers have vent holes and I thought I read somewhere, they were needed. Is that still true?

I used that template a few years ago. Gets a great starting point and then file it to fit. I have the chrome cover on my fuse box so I had to make the hole bigger. I also don't have any vent holes in it and have never run into any issues.

My first attempt lasted quite a while. I had a guy make a mirrored C5 vinyl logo so the sticky was on the front and placed it on the back side. Then sprayed the black. When it was dry I pulled the vinyl off and then sprayed my car color so the logo would be purple. All painting was done on the back side. After a few years the lexan started to show some scratches so I did a carbon 5D wrap on it. Still looks great. I may make another one but paint the top side next time. I don't have any up close pictures.

Thanks for the template. I've thought about making this in the past, vendors want a hundred bucks for something that looks pretty easy to make myself. Got some acrylic sheet at Lowes. Since there is a choice do you have a recommendation for the thickness? I purchased 3/32" but should I go thicker? Thanks again.

I had bookmarked your original thread some 10 years ago (March '07)

Guess it's time to get off my duff and go build one....
I'll check out the local Home Depot this week to see if the have Lexan in stock. I have a Delta jig saw that should work to cut out the design. Any idea what type of blade to use on Lexan?

When you download this PDF and open it up the Ledger on the right which has the where to print, how many copies etc, etc. The is an Options part.......When you go to print this MAKE SURE the box marked "Fit to Print" is not checked or it will print smaller by an 1/8th of an inch.
Ask me how I know

How critical is it that the box is exactly 4 1/8". My printout is 4 1/16". Should I try reprinting it or can I compensate by just cutting it slightly larger. Or will it work okay if I cut it at the size I printed. How exact does it have to be? Thanks in advance.

I made one years ago out of 3/16" Lexan and painted it black, on the back side.
Had on old Z06 fender emblem and glued it on.
Turned out great.

I tried to cut out the template to size on cardboard. Could not get it right. When I priced a sheet of lexan, I did a search on ebay and found an ABS cover cheaper than what I would have paid for a sheet of lexan. I bought it and it fits perfectly.

There is a specific jig saw blade for cutting acrylic sheets and similar materials. Cuts a very smooth line. Also, hopefully your sheet will have adhesive backed paper on both sides for protection. Leave it on when you cut so the edges will stay smooth. Don't remove it until finished cutting. If not cover the sheet with the blue masking tape.
