I went to my local GM service manager and I asked if I provided my registration card if they could give me a service history on my car. The service manager told me not unless the car was there so they could inspect it. This sounds insane I have never had this happen, even at the BMW or Benz dealer....and they can be real PITA.
Anyhow is there any other way to get it? I'd like to get a baseline to see whay may need serviced in the near future
The only service you are going to find is what GM has done under warranty or recall. It is called GMVIS. Some dealers will pull it and give it to you and others want to make a profit from it. There are a couple of Forum Members that can get the GMVIS for your VIN for you but you need to provide them the VIN. Post a new thread asking for someone to pull it for you when you bought the car.
GM doesn't keep general service history for things like oil and filter, belts etc. Only way to get that is if the seller you bought the car from provided full service records.
So start a new post and post up myVIN number? Pardon my ignorance but I thought that was an Internet no no?
Thanks for the guidance.
I bought my Z06 about 5 years ago. I called the dealership where the car was maintained and they had the oil change and recall information on record. Maybe you can find out where the car was serviced and they may have better records for you.

I just went to a local chevy dealer and asked for a service history of the car. It was not even serviced at that dealer and they ran it and gave it to me. Very handy had all the history from when it was new.
Amazing that in today's world dealers still act like they do then wonder why people hate some dealerships. Toyota/Lexus has thier service histories online you can print them once you register the car to you. I registered the Vette on Chevrolet's website and it was very generic.
I would try a different dealer. I just bought a 2001 TA from a Mercedes dealership a few months ago. The next day I pulled up to the service bay at a local Chevy house and parked my car. Walked inside and told them I had just bought the car and wanted to know what service had been done in the GM network. Waited about 5 minutes and they came back with multiple sheets stapled together.
May be a Naive Question but.. say I do post my VIN, What Can You Do With It? The Car is Registered to Me, so Why the Secrecy? The Only VIN I Can See Anyone Would Want is Their Own.

Probably not much short of a scammer listing it on eBay or CL.
There are TWO records of your cars maint. The VIZ is easily available and shows all work done under warranted. This could come from any dealer free for the asking. There is another listing of ALL maint and is (should be) available only to the registered owner.
