Caravaggio does a convertible conversion, I believe on Z06's so I could see where someone would want to check VIN to see what the original model actually was. LOL on the Google search.

You don't need a VIN.
Z06: Fixed roof. Manual trans only. Z06 exterior emblem
Base: Targa fastback roof. auto or manual trans. No exterior emblem other than Corvette flag badges.
Why would you buy a Corvette without knowing every detail you can determine about it?
Bottom line, it can be
. Some owners, and dealers, don't even know the distinction between a 03 50th Anniversary and a 50th Anniversary Edition. They claim..."The emblem on the car says 50th Anniversary." Well yeah, all 03's have those emblems but not all 03's are Editions. (I know OP was talking about 04...just saying).Sixth digit VIN is a 1 for hardtop, 2 for coupe, 3 for Convertible. DONE!
RPO codes 1YY07 = Coupe; 1YY37 = Hardtop; 1YY67 = Convertible.
So bottom line, it can get confusing to some of us, even as owners.
But the VIN does not, in the eyes of the law & DMV. If the type of body of any vehicle is changed from set forth in its certificate of title, i.e. FRC to CV, the owner of the vehicle immediately shall notify DMV on the form that DMV requires. A Certificate of title issued by DMV is prima facie evidence of the facts appearing on it.
