Hey thank you so much for the information, especially the video. I shared that with my cousin who had a Vette for 10 years and always used a conditioner on it...and my explanation to him was that water would have done just as well...and luckily, the conditioner did not compromise the treatment on the finished leather seats. Thanks for taking the time to share that information! barry

According to the video, virtually 100% of car leather is finished leather. So why is there so many car leather treatments?

you have to follow along.

its like a soap opera here... if you miss an episode then you need to back track.

I posted that to the guy who pm'd me. it has his name on it and I posted it here in a open thread where he asked me questions as if I was his best bud. This is after he called me a liar.

Got it?
Bill aka ET
here in this forum you get a lot of good advice from knowledgeable people.

you get a lot more BS from people who know nothing but claim to be a legend in their own mind.

You get scathing commentary

You get some laughs.

You might see something that brings tears to your eyes.

You will see people who give cheap shots.

You will see people who don't take any BS from stalkers or those who take cheap shots.

You may get a lot of sugar coating here.

You can also get good honest input without the BS associated with sugar coating too.

You might get a lesson in morals and ethics.

You will see many who subscribe to the notion, don't say anything unless it is nice. (even if it is far from the truth )

You wont see much tough love.. but the tough love is the most honest and helpful advice you can find.

Once you learn who is capable of giving good sound information, and who are the legends in their own mind , this place can save you thousands of dollars, and have a lot of fun too. Choosing the wrong people to take advice from has cost many members here on this forum, thousands of dollars. Its the reason I always say " Be very careful who you listen too here on this forum "

now THAT is funny. ET you always claim that your paint has 80000 miles but I've owned a corvette for 5 years, and well I know that hood didn't come from the factory.

Always???? I'VE BEEN ON THIS FORUM FOR 16 YEARS.. I bought my car New in December of 1998. My Car along with Stewsvette where on the home page of Motor city mold company for years.

Just another skeptic another cheap shot......
I bought that hood in 2000. my car has 100,000 miles on it now. that hood has 90,000 miles on it now... that hood is 17 years old..

What else you got??? just because you don't know how to take care of a car , that doesn't mean that I don't..

The hood ( MCM )along with the modified rockers were painted once and that was 17 years ago, the only other non factory paint on my car is the rear flared quarters, done two years ago the rest of the paint : roof, hatch, doors, front and rear fascia, and front fenders are all factory original paint. The hood and the quarters were painted off the car. the car was never taken to the shop for paint and never blended to other panels. I took the gas cap up so they could spectrograph it for paint color match, which was perfect. I installed both hood and quarters at my house. the modified rockers where done by me at my house ( my very first attempt at body work ) took me 40 hours to fit, glass fill, mold ( body sculpt ) and sand..and then painted at the shop.

I'm sorry, I apologize.. lately I have been inundated with abuse and disrespect... I'm sensitive as it is with my reputation and my honesty... The drugs I take don't help me to allow things to roll off my back.

I wish I could have seen the humor in it.. but I didn't.. Again I apologize and appreciate you position and exp[lamination...

I was not sure that anyone would see the irony in a guy calling me a liar and then asking me to comment to him...

what I didn't post from him ( and I still have it in my PM box ) is after this guy called me a lair he said , it would be his pleasure to meet me sometime and talk corvettes. AS smart as I like to think I am, this place humbles me as to the questionable character of some people.

Thanks for your post.

I was told some years ago that if you feel the need to use a leather conditioner then use the best un cented skin care lotion you can find instead of the made for leather care car products....
Way less cost and more effective....I use it from time to time with great results....will not cause any damage nor unwanted results...

Automotive interiors look best and factory fresh when they have a matte appearance. The easiest way to keep them looking nice is a boar's hair brush and some interior cleaner. For cleaner, I use Adam's leather cleaner but heavily diluted simple green will also work. The key is to wipe everything clean with a microfiber as soon as your cleaner foams up from the brush. This is when the dirt and grime has been lifted from the seat and is suspended in the foam. If you let it dry, then you're working against yourself. For this reason, you should only do small sections at a time.

As far as dressings or conditioners, I say skip them unless you like a greasy looking, slippery interior.

So while there is a break in the action, will using conditioner degrade or remove the coating originally on the leather seats, and if so is there an after market product that will restore said coating? Thanks for any information.

I don't like jumping into a bar room brawl but I came to this forum 12 years ago looking for help on an alternator issue I was having. ET provided the information that not many on the forum even knew about at that time. Since then he has helped with advice and questions concerning after market tunes, tpms issues and more. I enjoy his perspectives on why certain things on the C5 are the way they are. Only someone with his background could provide that insight.

Perhaps he is a little rough around the edges but I doubt I would have half his patience if I had to go through the medical crap he does. I will continue to look for his posts each time I sign on to the forum. Thanks again ET!

a Little rough around the edges...

I take these meds 4 times a day, including four injections... these are all poisons ( clinical trials experimental meds ) they have been successful at keeping me in remission, but I pay a horrible price to stay alive.

They make me very very sick but I am still here, still alive .. keeping busy on forums help me to keep my sanity.

Thank you for expressing your positive comments .. ON that Note, when I first came here From GM, I would get 50 to 100 Pms a day... and I never went to bed without answering everyone...( I was retired, had the time and I wanted to give back ) This went on for about 5 or 6 years when the C5 forum was the top forum here. AS years went on the level started to decrease 50 a day, 40 a day etc. But I still get a dozen or so a day The people at that time paid 45, 60 thousand for their C5...

today this forum is filled with a lot of people who can afford a C5 on a McDonalds' pay check. there are still some old timers here who bought their C5 New and rarely post anymore for various reason, they all ask me why I stay active. here but stay in contact with me via PM or text.

I like to help people with their C5 and I am in the position to help with their issues and give them some culture about the development of their car. I've been asked 100 times to write a book on what didn't make it into a C5, and why and how things actually made it, and the stories behind its development that never made it into a book.

Thanks for having my back

The BMW guys like leatherique quite a bit, but I have no experience with it. Many have either restored or changed the color of their interior entirely using their products. From my understanding, it's never 100% OE, but pretty close. The seats in these cars aren't the best to begin with, so I would rather spend the money to upgrade than repair them, but that's just my opinion

Coincidentally, we also have an X5 BMW. I'll have to try and find this stuff and give it a try. Thanks for the info.

I like those quite a bit, seriously looked at one but couldn't let my M3 go because I'm too attached to it. Depending on the damage you have, you may try just cleaning it first, the cinnamon and imola interiors so wear and tear fast, but clean up well

Our seats are pleather. Conditioning them will just leave the product on the surface and then on your pants.

(Which is a waste unless you wear leather pants??).

Mild soap in warm water is all you need.
