Well, went into town on a date and after a good meal, unlocked and got in. Everything was fine, placed the key in the switch, seat automatically adjusted, dash lights up, depressed the clutch, turned the key to start - and absolutely nothing - no start, no clicking, lighting did not dim - nothing. Key turned to start position so the column isn't locked.
2001 coupe, M6 215,000 on the clock. I'm thinking with those miles the starter just suddenly went bad - but I'm not a mechanic - don't even know where the starter is located to check the connections. The battery connections are tight and it's a new battery - all the lights work and nothing is dimming. Only other thing I can think of is the clutch switch may not be disengaging - but I really don't have a clue.
is this for replacing the clutch switch ? Mine does what the OP's does but not very often and I to thought it was the clutch switch myself but was told it was the ignition switch ?
Similar situation happened to me, replaced the starter and it never happened again. It would only do it while hot, never when cold. I believe I used a new bosch starter from autozone with the updated design, but it's been several years.
