Ran Royal Purple since buying my '99 FRC 3 years ago. Was short on time and went to my local Jiffy Lube for a change. They used their Pennzoil Synthetic (top notch) oil. After about a month, I got the "High Oil Temperature" message on the DIC.
Changed to Mobil 1 (factory recommended). Same issue (even after troubleshooting for a short and changing the temp sensor).
Wondering if switching back Royal Purple will alleviate the issue, since the oil is that only thing thats different.
Any input/insults, and constructive/destructive criticism welcome and appreciated.
What about your coolant temperature? Is it high as well? If so, maybe you sucked up some trash up into the radiator, it's a common issue on our bottom air feeding C5s
You must have been really short on time, given that a C5 oil change is one of the quicker and easier ones you'll encounter. Next time, consider waiting until your schedule isn't so full.

I would have to guess that there is something else going on - I've run Mobil 1 exclusively in all three C5s that I've owned and never had that type of message appear. Maybe pull the codes off the DIC and see what is stored there.

IPC shows code 1542H. Weird thing is, when the HIGH OIL TEMPERATURE message appears and it cuts to the Oil Temp. reading, the temperature slowly moves downward. It's an intermittent problem.
Wondering if the IPC is going south...

I had the same thing happen once after an oil change at Firestone with Mobile 1. After the High Oil Temp message I took it to my friend, Chevy dealer, and fellow Corvette owner himself and he said the oil Firestone put in was not Mobile 1 - just regular ol' oil. Morons!
Try changing your oil again to Mobile 1 or Royal Purple if that's your poison and see if that takes care of the issue.
When I go in to have my oil changed, with the oil and filter that I buy elsewhere, I sit in the vette while they change it. I won't let them vacuum the inside and I won't even let them wash my windshield. I trust no one, but I can't change it myself.

Interesting. I've not heard of any cases where interior vacuuming or the washing of a windshield by an employee of a quicky oil change establishment has caused an engine to grenade. Me thinks you might be monitoring the wrong activities.
Kidding aside, it would probably be better for you to find a local indy with a solid reputation for caring and attention to detail and pay the extra to have them perform your oil service.

Reason: typo
I would look at the oil temp sensor, check if its loose or the wire is loose/rubbing on something. It may be going out and is located just above the oil filter.
I highly doubt the oil is the problem. It doesn't matter if you put the crappiest dino oil, your car should not be overheating its oil (or coolant) unless you're running hard laps on the track. For normal driving, it should be nowhere near overheating.
