Default Shifter Question

I have an 04 Vette C5, A/T, the shifter moves freely. I have everything removed, but then I don't know how to determine what's not connected or needs to be fixed.

Would you explain or send a picture, so I an determine what's wrong ???

I'm no A4 expert but it sounds like your shifter cable is broken/not attached. I hear it's a fairly common problem. You can find much more info with a search on here.

Literally just had this happen to my 04. The shifter cable is being swapped out as I type this. It was still connected at the tranny but was wearing right off under the actual shifter.

There are plastic grommets on both ends, one on the shifter, one on trans end.check those first. Common problem. Auto parts store has them. dormon) pack has a bunch of diff.sizes but the ones you need are in there.

Sure sounds like a problem with the shift cable.

Definitely shifter cable, either the shifter end or the transmission end...

That piece of orange was part of the original bushing...

What a story : I finally went to our local Chev. Dealership, I know I shouldn't of, just don't have the correct jacking tools. Should of went and bought them. First of course I needed a new shifter, total $635, $200 in addition to put a/c belt on. Now the-shifter was used (said they told me, maybe true, getting a little old). When I left dealership, radio didn't work, messed up a piece of trim, a/c indicator not illuminating, and most importantly the FNG indicator on the used Shifter didn't work. To shorten the rest, after 3 trips to the dealership (myself buying aftermarket shifter, new). Suppose to get reimbursed, I have my Vette back. They gave me a code to fix the radio. But they couldn't do it. So I fixed radio, after 2 days and the rest didn't get fixed. Got to get a part for a/c !

On the third trip I went to dealership, found the Service Manager (for the last time), I was asking to speak to GM or owner, he took me into his office and started to talk. I cut over him immediately and began chewing him out. Got the Vette 3 days later

Wow that's really crappy, I did mine in my garage, took me about 2.5 hours, dropped the exhaust and everything.
