I'd say around 45-50 MPH. I try to keep the revs above 1000 rpm no matter what gear I'm in.

if you have stock exhaust you won't hear the engine like with a louder system, you are bogging the engine below 55 in 6th and you are giving the engine a slow death !!!! Detonation can't always be heard, it will destroy your engine !!!

I roll along in the 6th gear and the computer tells me I'm doing 35-40 mpg

As for maximum acceleration at 70 mph, 2nd gear is good to about 75 mph, and 3rd gear is good to 100. So for the best acceleration, you would shift into 3rd, but you would need a lot of practice to make that shift quickly and smoothly. Especially from 6th to 3rd.

That's true, I didn't think of that...you're going through two gates to go from 6th to 3rd....

A lot of your requested info is in your owners manual. Best wishes!

I've used sixth gear at speeds of 50-55 before. Just depends on the traffic situation whether that is too low of a speed for that gear.

I don't know your life situation but if at all possible join the party so you can possibly take advantage of winter month pricing, won't last much longer with spring and summer on the horizon. Wish you luck on getting your C5. Best wishes!

That's the right answer supported by the manual

Grampi do you actually own a C5 yet? Or are you just trolling us still?

Sweet Jeezus. I'm pretty sure grampi is posting from the big house... At what point does a person get banned for trolling like this? He has 500 posts, and appears to just be screwing with the forum members who continue to answer and respond in his threads. We even have a moderator responding to these threads... I'm blocking and reporting grampi.

I agree......Grampi, you've made almost a dozen posts in this thread alone and have said virtually nothing of significance. It's time to put up or shut up......BUY A CORVETTE!!
Your post count number is really looking good though....BTW there isn't any trophy for the highest post count.
I have only blocked one member since I joined this forum and you do win the trophy for that. And yes I do own a Torch Red C5 coupe with Torch Red interior.....Eat your heart out"........

I cruise at 40MPH @ 800RPM ,in 6th, on level surface without lugging. Always make sure that the engine oil is at operating temperature of 190 F or above.

The 2001 and + LS1 will make 300 foot pounds of torque at 1000 RPM. These engines have a wide power band.

I'm not exactly the old grizzled veteran around this forum, but I'll throw in my two cents anyway. Personally, I'm willing to give grampi the benefit of the doubt. It could be that the forum is getting played but I haven't seen anything that would prove that. In between, perhaps this man is just someone who is truly and keenly interested in these cars and is trying to learn all he can while waiting for his chance to purchase. Just my individual opinion but at this point I don't see the harm in his participation. Everyone take care!
