Corvette Concepts takes a stock shifter and lops half the threads off of it, giving you a stock shifter (despite what you may read/hear) that's shorter. Problem is that you still have the fat, insulated shaft below the threads, which makes screwing down some ***** (as far as they're supposed to go) impossible (and also stretches the top of the boot opening).
Mallett uses the BASE of the stock shifter, but uses its own billet, uninsulated shifter shaft that's 1-1/2" shorter than stock. It's rumored to be more precise than the stock shifter 'cause the sloppy insulated feel of the stock shifter has been removed -- but the shifter leverage point has not been altered, and so it should shift with the EASE of the stock shifter.
All the other aftermarket shifters raise the leverage geometry (physically), making them more difficult to shift. They're MUCH more precise, and the throws are much shorter -- they're just tougher to actuate. Some people love this, and others hate it. Me, I'm in between right now. The stock unit is absolute crap, IMO, so I'm not going back to it. I'm just growing a bit tired of muscling the Ripper...
