I dug out the old wagon-wheels from my parents basement and brought them home this weekend. Would love to mount them up with "full-on slicks" but realistically I don't have any way to get them to the track. I run Bridgestone RE-760 on the street - are there tires out there that will (1) significantly enhance my track day experience that (2) I can drive to the track (maybe 2h each way) and (3) also not break the bank? These would be "in a size that can fit on the OEM wheels."
Nitto NT-05 or NT-01. 01s are stickier, but 100 treadwear means driving to track is going to have adverse effects on the life of the tires. I run the NT-05 as my "arrive and drive" tire.

Maybe see if the track has a storage option. If you do more then a few track events and are hard on the car you can chew up tires real fast. I had the same dilemma as you, initially having to get a friend to follow me up in his SUV with my wheels, only to find out the track charges $25 a month for wheels storage so now I don't have that hassle anymore.
The most sticky tire I've owned is the Michelin Pilot Super Sports. I like them so much I put them on all 3 of my sport cars. Downside, they are not the cheapest tire out there.

Not the best track day tire except for rain days and cooler weather. A hot dry track can chew them up very fast. If you could only have 1 set of tires for both street and track AND had possible wet track weather then the PSS would be an excellent choice.
I've been wrestling with this all winter and the I think the PSS will be my new tires. Even though my car will see 50/50 track/street miles I live in the PNW and rain is always a possibility. I will have to be careful later in the summer when the temps are higher.
If I had 2 sets of wheels I would go with the NT01's as they get rave reviews on the autocross part of the forum. Check it out, they have several current threads on this subject.
