Default Key Fob Keeps Unpairing

I hope Unpairing is the correct terminology ?

I have had my C5 for about 7 years and never have had this happen. Lately, my keyfob keeps unpairing (disconnecting) from the car. When I go to lock or unlock the car to deactivate the security system, nothing happens. I have to go into the DIC and reprogram the keyfobs time after time.

Both fobs have new batteries. The first time this happened about 2 weeks ago I changed both batteries thinking this was the issue. But it has happened several more times since then.

Can a distant remote from a neighbor cause this to happen (its never been an issue in all these years - maybe a neighbors fob or a neighbors garage door remote or TV remote or ? ).... Or could my sons RC Cars be doing this ? (again, its never been a problem before).

I'm stumped !

Can anyone help ?

Thanks

Gary

could also be the RAF module is going bad, I replaced the whole system with the kit from Cultrag. includes new key fobs and all TPMS sensors with the RAF all from the newer 2001 and up system. It's pricey but to me it was worth it !!!

This is a VERY common issue on the early year FOB's.

Also you should not have to use the DIC to reprogram the FOB's. You should only need to stand in front of the car and press both the lock and unlock buttons until the horn beeps.

i did this with mine & it has worked perfectly ever since.... Good Luck

Yes 8VETTE7, My C5 is a 99.

I just now gently touched with my soldering iron, those 6 points as indicated in the pic provided in the link that Fasthotrod showed with 6 red dots. I sure I hope I put enough heat on those "tiny" connections. I had to use a magnifying arm-lamp to see them. I didn't want to put too much heat and I'm not a soldering expert.

After re-assembling the fob, I tried to stand in front of the car (engine not running) without going into the DIC and press both buttons, but nothing happened (no honk). So I started the car and went into the DIC to re-program both fobs again.

So far, they are both working. But this happened that last 4 times I reprogrammed them until a few days later when one of them stopped working.

If the fob becomes unpaired again, then I will have to put more heat on those tiny soldered tabs ??

Thank you all so much. This is a start to see if we have nailed this problem.

If it fails, I will repost my concerns.

As always, everyone here is so awesome and generous in sharing their wealth of knowledge.

Thanks again.
