I replaced my stock radio with a Pioneer AVIC-X940BT a few years ago. Now I'd like to replace the F/R speakers only. FAQ says a Vert has 3.5" in the doors and 5.25 in the rear.
I really like the sound of the Bose but after 17+ years it's time for them to go. Could I please get some speaker recommendations that will just drop right in with no mods, maybe minor mods.
I'd like to have same sound but better. Budget? say $300.
If you want to take this a little further, without a doubt, the easiest and least expensive way to upgrade the system with the more bang for your buck is new speakers that can be bolted on in place of the factory ones, keeping the rest of the system intact.

Will the harness shown work for the front 3.5" twiddlers as well or is some cutting & soldering needed for replacing them?
I was not 100% sure about that and I asked that question in another thread.
The 3.5" front twiddlers are wired into an 8 pin harness shared with the subwoofer amps. To avoid having to deal with the 8-pin connector and still keep it neat, just desolder the 2 cables (black with red stripe and black with green stripe) from the Bose speaker terminals and solder them back to the replacement speaker terminals. Make sure you keep the correct speaker polarity.
You can easily put 6x9s in.
You just have to mount them 1 inch
off the door.
The door panel will still fit.
I'd run new wiring instead of fiddling
with the factory stuff

A little more detail on your set up please? What do you have there in the corners? Are they tied to the rear channel?
I have 2 old school Rockford amps a 600a4 to power 4 channels
2 in the doors and 2 in the back
and a 500a2 that powers the sub
I also have another Kicker small size 200 watt amp up front to power the tweeters.
I have level controls for the high mid low amps as in pic of cockpit.
I used to have 6x9s in small boxes in the back but that's an old pic.
I put some Kicker speakers that were a direct replacement for the factory back ones rated for 45 watts rms 90 peak and turned down the gain on the rear channels of the 600a4
Latest pic
Also have an old school Kenwood full din kgc 7043 digital EQ

I tried a setup similar to that, but missed having my trunk. Since I have a vert, that's all I have. I built a new box, 4" up from the floor, with a 1k watt skar 10. Also buried a 90/4 inside the dash for the other speakers. It really rocks turned up

I still have enough trunk.
The amps don't take up that much space.
The deals Denis at Double D Mods has are pretty hard to beat. If he is offering including a sub in that price range it would definitely be something to consider. You also get his customer support.

+1 for this. Dennis put together an absolutely killer system for me on a budget and picked up the phone every time I called. Can't speak highly enough of his work.
