So i just purchased my first Corvette Its a yellow 2000 LS 1 6 speed. Ive had mustangs all my life lol probably shouldn't admit that...but I love this Vette!! Being new to this i have some questions as far as tuning and Performance mods. As far as Gears..would doing a gear swap benefit me? Im not concerned with top end...i dont see myself doing 200mph lol. From what i understand it has a 3.42 gear already? It has some mods already like a Weiand ls 1 intake, Hooker Super Comp cat back exhaust and I installed a K&N CAI. I was looking into tuning and wanted to know if anyone has used ECS tuning like there mail order tune? I gotta take care of my brothers 04 Cobra lol any info would be appreciated!
As you sit youu would probably benefit most from a good set of headers. Be forewarned; C5s suffer from Corvette Tax something fierce when it comes to headers and honestly it can be a bit ridiculous when you compare it to cars of the time like SN95s and F-bodies. However dollar for power gain it's hard to beat a competent set of headers with the mods you have now and a good accompanying tune (you will likely for sure need a tune with headers since many delete one set of the 02s).
On tune, you can go with a mail order but you may be best served seeking out someone local that is well-versed with LS. They usually see similar cars day in and day out and once you've paid for the initial tune usually charge a nominal fee for your next updates. If your foresee a lot of recurring mods in the future I'd seek a local tuner.
The six speed is geared fairly well and benefits most from a "driver mod." Unless you're packing an extreme amount of power and some tall gearing to back it up you won't reach anywhere near 200 MPH anyway. Stock the car begins to run out of gear (use fifth for top speed) and aero around the 171-173 MPH range.
Did you notice a difference in your vette with the tune?
I did a LS 6 intake, headers, and had a Vararam CAI and needed a tune, 150.00 dollars was a no brainer and the car runs fantastic and all the mods and tune made a huge difference !! I want 4.10's because 6th is almost worthless under 75 mph and 4.10's would really make a difference and 6th gear would still give me mpg not that I care all that much about gas mileage !!! The tune also has my fans cone on earlier, skip shift eliminated, running a 180 stat and it runs around 192 degrees all day !!!

I appreciate the info! I have been looking into Headers but dang lol...they are definitely not cheap. But i hear they really help. I probably will wait on tunr after the headers to fully benefit me. There is a guy here local that does have a dyno and is pretty well known for his tunning on Cobras and Vette's.

I have XS Power headers with high flow cats X pipe, under 800 dollars !!! great system !!!
Welcome to the group. Lucky for me I live about an hour from ECS, therefore I bring the car down there and Doug does an onroad Street tune. There's a big difference because Doug tunes the car the way you want to drive it. I had it done on my Z06 as well and its just great.
the high flow cats flow well and keep the car legal !!!!
Better off with hi flow cats than no cats. I have Kooks long tubes with hi flow cats, (Maryland Speed has the best price). Get the ceramic coating as well, add new plugs and wires and an ECS mail order tune. Kooks are an easy install from underneath. No jacking up the motor or removing the starter or steering shaft. Just move the ground wire out of the way and they just slide right up.
