Wednesday while I was waiting for the auto-x to start at Beech Bend in Bowlling Green I watched the Vipers (who had rented out the drag strip for the day) race for about an hour and a half. They had 4 classes, don't know what the criteria is but they were: stock, Mod I, Mod II and unlimited. There was also a pair of 03 Snakes. I have to say I thought they looked pretty good, ran around 12.2's at 119 MPH, with 2.0 - 2.1 60' times so they knew how to drive - still within reach for a Z06 :)
Two comments. Even though the NCM allowed a Viper to run in our auto-x class (which was a hoot, he couldn't control the car worth a darn) they wouldn't let me run in their precious drag race group. I'm OK with that, but didn't think the Viper should have been allowed in our event - the gate should swing both ways IMO.
As for the rest of the field, I saw mostly 12.5-12.9 range on the stock class, some low 13's and a best as I recall of 12.4. On Mod 1 the range was about the same as stock, but with more cars making the 12.5 side of things, speed in both cases 113 - 117 or so. Mod II brough out some low 12's and a few high 11's. Unlimited was all over the place, with some serious nitrous cars, one ran a 10.2@148 MPH! 2 more MPH and NHRA will require a parachute. There were a number of mid-high 10 second cars, all appeared to be running power adders and racing slicks. My kind of group :)
All in all it was fun to watch them, I just wish they would have let me play, especially since all out drag racing got rained out at the Z06Fest :(
Don't feel bad. They won't let other Vipers attend also(without registering). You had to be registered at the VOI7 (viper owners invitational)in nashville this weekend. Price tag is $700 each on top of that it was $100 to race. Needless to say I'm not invited Not invited because I wasnt going to spend that kind of money so it is a private function. Not open to the general public. I remember two years ago some vipers showed up for the ZR1 gathering and one raced. Needless to say the Viper lost and lost badly. It was funny. I said he had to be brave to show up to a all chevy show and get beat like that but then again it wasnt brave. Just embarrasing
You don't happen to have any Videos do you? The drags must not have gone too good as there is not much info over at the Viper site. Everyone's kind of quiet  there was lots of smack talking before the drags now silence.
BTW as the other guy said you must have a ticket to attend which cost $700 for the 5 day event
Sorry, no video's. There were plenty of folks taking pics so I am sure they will be available soon. $700 for the event PLUS $100 to race! That is :bs but what do I know :) I can see why they didn't want/allow people dropping in - that said I heard that there were a lot of no-shows due to the weather, so they should have let at least Viper's in without a reservation, but that would probably p.o.'d the guys who paid $700. With all the rain they couldn;t have had a very good time.
