C5 wheel upgrade
I have a base 2002 that has the 3.15 Auto and a few other goodies. I seem to get no traction out of my 275 rears. So even though my rims are perfect and have no scuffs been thinking of upgrading so I can fit wider rear tires and stop just spinning. Looked into a lot of different wheels but don't want the cheap heavy reproductions and don't want to do spacers to make C6 wheels fit. I found a set of Zo6 wheels
OEM in black but they need to be redone. My question is this has anyone had any good experiences redoing them to be different. I'm thinking making them look black chrome. My car is black and I had a 98 w the exact same wheels once before but don't want black on black look.

I have 315/30x18 BFG Rivals S tires on my stock Z06 rear wheels and no rubbing of inside or inner fendors. Check the offset of the new rims and make sure they are +/- 3 mm of original GM rims.

My tires are the Goodyear run flats and are 14 month old. Yes I know a better tire would help a lot but anything over 1/2 throttle just spins under 30 mph. And if you floor it on Hwy you can still get loose with them. I figured new tires would help but since even MORE HO is in the future wider would also be better . My ? Is more about refinishing wheels and if anyone has done it themselves. I really like the black chrome look or just chrome. But since these are already black a paint mimicking black chrome would be the easiest way. And as far as if they are OEM ? I was told they were but I plan on inspecting them and making sure they are the Alcoa or Speedline before picking them up.

The black wheels that you show in the pic are not OEM wheels - they are reproductions called Motorsports in the Z06 style. OEM wheels never had the rivet look around the spoke area.
But to your question - there shouldn't be any problem having the wheels refinished in a black chrome provided they can do it with the rivets in place. Not sure how the process would work over them and how well it would last long term. That would be a question to ask of the place that does the refinishing.
I do think the black chrome looks very good and it's not something you see every day. And if the wheels are stock Z06 size, they you can go with larger tires to help with your traction problem.

Thanks Jack. I was wondering about he riverts myself. Have not seen them in person yet and may keep looking since I don't like the rivets look anyway. And I really prefer OEM. If I wanted repros I'd just buy some the way I want. But don't want the heavier wheel

Brent, I'm glad Jack( who I always agree with), clarified the wheels you are looking at, since I was suspicious as well. Here is a pic of my Z06 with STOCK Speedline wheels, that were stripped, black powdercoated, given a machined face and then clear coated. Not many people, AFAIK, have done this. I do miss those wheels!

Bronze. On black it will look like a show car I WISH my car was black again so I could rock this look they aren't the cheapest option at $2500 shipped with mounted tires, but you can pay more than that for a newer OE set, and these are forged as well if you wanna talk about a mod that MAKES the look of your car, this is it IMHO.
Good luck with whatever direction you go, there is no wrong answer
Also, I am an '01 with an A4, and the 3.15, and the 305 rear I have now, sticks WAAAAAAAY better off the line with 305 wide Hankook Ventus EVO.2's. WOT from a dig, no wheel spin on hot days

What brand of wheel are those? Where did you get them? And what size wheel are they? And what size tires are you running front and back? Are you saying they are 2500 total new or are you selling them for that? By the way it does look good and I've debated on a gold wheel look

Ah ha! We got a winner
They are Forgestar F14's, the color is what they call "satin bronze" and they measure 18x9.5 +50 offset semi concave, and 19x11 +53 offset deep concave. They are wrapped in Hankook Ventus V12 EVO.2 K120's in 265/35/18, and 305/30/19 respectively.
I got them from a forum vendor here called Get Your Wheels, sometimes goes by GYW for short. They are A+ top notch man Jason worked closely with me on the fitment, and they answered a million of my questions with patience, and logic, and they were very professional. Plus, my wheels arrived more than a week early Jason even went out of his way to accomadate me with pics of the rims as soon as they hit the loading bay. Great customer service!
Yes.They were $2500.oo SHIPPED brand spankin' new, with the tires mounted and balanced, with new black powder coated spline lock lug nuts. They are a custom made thing, so they do take a while to get, but they will take part down to get started on them; perfect for getting in those last couple weekends of overtime to finish paying them off
These things really took my ride to the next level. People (especially women) are always askin' me about them at the gas station, and in traffic. Someone literally wrecked while trying to look at my car.
I can give you specs on the suspension as well, if you're hunting for the perfect stance (my opinion obviously), that was pretty cheap too

Making sure you get a good tire is far more important than aiming for a wide tire.

I have a stock 2001 manual 6 speed, and I cannot break my rear tires free unless it is wet or I take it around a turn too fast. Even when it's wet, a rolling start to full throttle in first gear doesn't really spin it out. I have Continental DW on the rear, 285/40/18 on OEM magnesium rims.

Hmmmm, I have a very hard time believing this. Either you have a 2.73 diff and you just plane don't drive your Vette hard, or you have mechanical issues holding you back.
I can burn drag scubs with mine if I am trying, and I have as much WHP as a 6-speed. You should be able to spin up even drag radials dropping from mid range RPM's, street tires?! FORGET ABOUT IT, it is so ridiculously easy to light up a set of street tires in the C5.
I think that maybe you just don't drive fast much, and you're not used to the power.

That's a route I was considering. Hate to waste so much money on new rims plus mine look fine not a bit of curb rash of clear peeling. But also don't want to put 1000 worth into tires to realize I needed more. Mine is not a six speed But my car is also not stock so not sure how long B4 I need more rubber. Right now only about 430 HP but next spring will be in the low 500s once I'm done I realize the run flats on it are crap for traction. But if I have traction control off I'm sideways B4 I know it at half throttle. And with it on its cuts my power. It's great if you like burn outs but not for what I like to do. But thanks for the help. I manly was seeing what ratio front to rear you were running and that's the one I was going to try if I put new rubber on these wheels instead.

You also have all weather tires, which won't grip as good in the summer, and I have wider summer performance street tires that car and driver tests as some of the best summer street tires you can buy...which leads me to believe that maybe you just don't drive fast much, and you're not used to the power.

You are wrong about my rear tires, they are performance summer tires. The DW are very competitive against the PSS, not that far behind in performance, and one of the best in wet weather. My front tires are all season tires.
