Default Percentage window tint

My C5Z has non-tinted windows which drives me nuts as I have always had cars with tinted windows, usually fairly dark but on my last car it had a mild tint that I ended up being content with too. Though TBH I sort of like the anonymizing effect of dark tint combined with it making the interior more pleasant in the daytime. Plus there's just something about non-tinted windows that makes a car not look as good to me.

Anyway that aside I'm trying to decide on what percentage tint to go with. What percentage have those of you with tinted windows gone with? Also your thoughts on tinting the top strip on the windshield vs. not? How difficult is the Z06's FRC style back window to get tinted?

JMO, but I'd go with what state law allows - especially on the side windows. Here that is 35% on the sides. On my DD, I have 18% on the back and rear windows and that is plenty dark enough, especially at night.

I went with 35% since that's what's legal in my state. I think I would like 20-25% better but 35% is sufficient. I would not go any lighter than that.

I'd go with you're state's limit. Vette's are already on the "radar." Don't give em' another reason to pull you over!

35% is very nice and will give you a nice feel in the car, given it has a dark interior(is yours dark?). The rear windows on FRC and Targa Vettes do tend to be higher priced due to the location and design. The front windows have a pretty intense curvature to them as well. If you want something that blocks reflections, without compromising the natural look, than 50% would look good. Some people like the private and dark look, others like the less percentage.

The previous owner of my Z06 had tint that was too dark (and probably not legal in FL) for my tastes. The first two pics below show it right after I bought it.

The last pic is after I had it redone. My tint guy used some type of glue on the back window that dries clear so it would adhere to the dots along the top. I prefer the windshield without the strip.

Perfect, my Z is also yellow so just what I wanted to see. The dark tint on my previous cars (already tinted) was about as dark as what you did to it. Do you remember what % that was? I don't think I've ever had 5%, but I think my darker ones might have been 20%. Not sure on my last car what it was, much lighter than my usual preference. Looking at pics I'd guess it was maybe 50%.

Never had a problem being stopped with tint before, but it's always been a concern. As much as I like a dark tint, not sure I'd want 5%.

I went with 20% side and rear on mine. It is darker than legal but I think it makes a difference in what color your car is. Mine being black, the dark tint isn't as noticeable. Now if my car was white I would probably go 35% on the sides and stay legal since it's more noticeable. I have had no issues so far.

I've also been wanting to tint my windows, but I have concerns about the side window. Has anyone experienced problems with the tint peeling at the top of each side window where it rubs on the weatherstripping when going up?

I live in a small town and I drive my c5 rain or shine day and night so tint does matter to me when it comes to percentage. Limo is obscenity to dark for dark rainy conditions the tiny laws are there for safety not because the politicians want to be *** holes. After you almost hit a child or worse because you couldn't see them making a turn on to another street you will strip that dark tint right off your windows and go with something reasonable like 35%. Your car looking cool is not worth a accident or someone's life.

My family all has 5% tint on their cars, honestly even at night I don't have any problems seeing through it. I think if you're running the risk of running over someone you're not a very attentive driver, nothing to do with having or not having window tint. Of course I don't want tint that dark on my Z, but I'm leaning towards 20% now.
