heat & a/c display died. Any ideas?
My '01 C5 seems to have lost the display on the heater controls. For a while I could tap on the lens and see what the temp setting was, but now all is black. I seem to remember my '89 doing the same thing, but I can't remember the fix. It's been almost 14 years ago... I was talking to a Chevy dealer customer of mine, and he couldn't even come up with the part number of the dash unit! It kept referring to different parts breakdowns which didn't have a number either. Any ideas?
Thanks,

Inside the HVAC controller there are 8 resistors that need to be resoldered. This is a very common problem. There are multiple threads on how to repair it, search for dim display to find most of them.

Good luck with the repair. Lots of owners have had to do it.

I did my own repair. I suck at soldering. but even doing a crappy job I was able to fix it. Worth a try. If it does not work............here you go:

I can't believe it but the darn display was full brightness this am on the way to work. But by the time I got there it was getting dim. Pretty much full dark after work.
I'm more worried about removing the trim to get to the darn thing then fixing it solder itself.

Ahhh, never mind - I see that 8vette7's link already covers this. Anyway, you can do it no problem.

I finally told my wife the display had died. She whipped out the extended warranty info and it looks like it may be covered. It says it covers the air conditioning temp control programmer. I'll have to call my Chevy dealer tomorrow.
Meanwhile I popped the check engine light again for the smog pump air valve behind the engine. I guess I'll try the throttle body cleaner down the air pipe tip I saw online. Couldn't hurt, it's not covered under the warranty.
