Default THE New Continental Tire

Just got the new Continental DW Extreme Contact Sport tires for the Z. All I can say is they listened to the complaints we had with the old ones and fixed it. It now truly competes with the MPSS. The new tire is definitely stiffer in the sidewall and does not feel mushy on hard cornering and is definitely more responsive. The tire has excellent grip, however it does give up a little more traction on a wet road than before. Over all I am well pleased with the new tire. I run a 18/19 split with 265/35/18 up front and 305/30/19 in the rear.

Have you noticed any additional road noise?

Mark.

I also have these tires & have about 1k miles on em now & so far they are great. I'm running 275/40 fron & 295/35 rear on stock Z rims. They are noticeably better than the old DW Extremes, much better sidewalls, improved dry traction and about the same road noise which to me is pretty quiet. I would say these are easily as good as the much more expensive Michelin PS.

So far I haven't noticed any increased noise on the road. Just better performance.

Thanks for the report.
Sounds like an improvement to an already good tire.
Is there any way you guys could post a photo of them mounted on your car?
I'm very interested in these tires.
I would like to see how the side wall looks on stock rims.

This is really good news. I have the old ones and love them, soon I'll be needing new tires again, planned on pss but this sounds like a great deal.

The DWs are not bad tires. In fact they are the defacto go-to option in autocross in the wet. Just a different feel. Even dry they autocross just fine.

On the street they are very good tires. I would be interested to see when the new Extremes get out there and get some mileage on them.

due to all the problems? Literally the only complaint is the softer sidewall.

I just purchased these last week for my stock rims. When I initially ordered them, Tire rack sent me a email saying they don't recommend mixing speed ratings. The 17's are w rated and the 18's are y rated. I still purchased them and will install them in the near future. Does anyone think this could be problem handling wise??

Double check your speed ratings, my 275/40 & 295/35 are both ZR, not W or Y.

I wouldn't worry ether, fronts are rated for 168, rears 186. and if you take in wheel speed/slip at 168 the rears are probably in the 175 range. Works for me.

A ZR rating just means it is rated for over 149 mph the w and y are how far over 149 they are rated for, 168 and 186 mph.

that was only one. 340utqg was another, overall grip was down vs the tires a lot of people wanted to run. dw just really was not a fast tire. this new one still looks like a heavy wet tire but it may "feel" faster which would be a big improvement. the sidewall on the old one made it a bit unpredictable
