Default Air filter tray

Long story short, the tray that the air filter element fits into on my 03 coupe is broke all to pieces (don't ask why). Have one ordered from Ebay that won't be here til the end of next week. Meantime, I have the filter element stuck down in the housing with the spring clamps zip tied down. Will it hurt to drive it? The filter is placed where the tray would be, but you cant get a tight clamp seal, hence the zip ties. No dusty roads, just road driving.

If by the tray you mean the bottom housing that attaches to the MAF coupler then personally I wouldn't drive the car. If the box is damaged in any way then it'll possibly allow unfiltered air into the car; think road vibration that sort of thing. Will it likely be inconsequential? Yes. Ultimately it's your call.

The "lid" of the housing is before the point of filtered air so you can do whatever to it.

The tray that is broken is the piece that says "remove to service filter" and the element fits in it. Everything else is intact, tray got stepped on. I just slid the element back where its supposed to go, and put the spring clamps down with zip ties cause its not thick enough without the tray to allow them to clamp. Got a new tray ordered, just wanted to drive in the meantime.

So essentially you're doing the zip tie mod? If so, you should be OK, but if you're running a paper filer I wouldn't want to hit any rain...
