I need some help please, I'm looking for info on the glass roof on a 99 Corvette. I need the type of glass, the thickness, and also the pressure breaking point of the roof. My daughter is being sued for breaking one with her bare hand, so I need to prove that there is no way she can break it with her hand. Any and all info I can get will be great. I also need it emailed to me or mailed to me for court on June 6th. Please help if you can thanks.
Well I know it's lexan, I'd estimate it's about 3/16" thick, no idea how much force would be required to break it though. I'm a 29 year old, 190lb weight lifter, and I feel like I'd really have to try to break the thing.
Maybe bring a roof panel to court for demonstration purposes? I can't imagine a person being able to do this as you indicate it is being alleged.
Good luck.
What are they suing for? Seems like a waste of time to me. Unless there's a video of her doing it or she admits guilt it seems like a case of "he said she said". You should be able to pick up a good used one for $400, maybe less.
Its not going to shatter as its not glass, so what exactly are they accusing her of breaking? You'd have to have a hammer in your hand to damage it.
I can't help you with specifics but there is no way your daughter is breaking the roof panel with her bare hand. It is Lexan which is what bullet proof glass is made out of. She would break her hand first....Good luck with the case. I see this is your only post but let us know how you make out...
I'm not sure anyone would have that information other than GM and the manufacturer. I'd recommend calling them and seeing if they could help. As others have stated it's lexan, the same stuff used for bullet proof glass. There's no way she could break the glass without using something to assist her. If you can't find the info you need maybe talk to your lawyer and see if you can get a targa from a junk yard and use for demonstration.
Yeah, not sure how you accidentally hit a Corvette roof panel? Was she trying to break it? How old is she? What is the back-story?
I don't see how she could break that Lexan with her hand, but she could defiantly put a gouge or major scratch in it with jewelry or something! I had a rock hit mine a few years ago and it put a couple pits and scratches in it and my Comprehensive Insurance paid $1400 for a replacement less my deductible.
Maybe the Corvette owner does not have insurance or his deductible is too high?
I am assuming this is going to small claims court. In my personal past experience, I tried to sue two different customers in the past for not paying their invoices. In both cases the accused party just never showed up and I got tired of all the red-tape and running back and forth to the Courthouses - so I gave up.
Thanks to all of you who have responded, first the kid who said this happened does not like my daughter.. I'm going to print this post and bring it into the court maybe it'll help. They said that she slammed her hand down on the window and crack, there is no video or pic just the owner saying he seen her do it.I have included a picture of what it looks like. I don't know what to do next I've contacted the manufacturer and they said they don't have that information so I don't know where I can get that information if the manufacturer doesn't have it. She is being charged for 2nd degree felony for destruction of private property which I think is a little ridiculous but she's being charged in Second District Court Small Claims and she's actually going to trial in front of a jury. If there's anybody on this forum that lives in Utah and would be willing to bring their car to the courthouse or whatever we'll have to talk to the attorney and find out what we would need or what we could do that would be greatly appreciated because its not right foot somebody to go down for something that is completely impossible for them to do. She weight 135 pounds and she's 19 I knew there was no way she could do that thanks for your info everyone. I'll keep checking back to see if I get more thanks bye guys.
This is what she supposedly did too it she can't even reach that far in on the car. She is 19 5'4 130lbs. They are charging her for class b felony for destruction of private property because it was over 1000.00 to repair, there is no pictures or video to prove that she did it only a 19 year old boy who says he watched her do it. This boy and get have always not liked each other and this all came to light after he got mad at her when she bought a 67 Camaro. I have contacted the manufacturer and had no luck they said they don't have that info, I just need to get contact info for the person who would have this info. If anyone can help with that I would greatly appropriate it. Also anyone like around Ogden, ut that has one of these cars that would be willing to come to the trial for us to use your car to prove her case, I can contact her attorney and get all the info war would need. Thanks
