Jesus is this the thread where dreams go to die? Is this thread sponsored by AARP? I'm getting depressed just combing through it.
This forum has lots of old guys that've had their cars since new, and new young guys that have taken advantage of the availability of a world class high performance car for cheap. Aging happens, and to a lot of us here, it's not always been aging "gracefully".
I bought my C6 to have fun and use till I am content. Some day when it is all worn in or flat worn out I will sell it.
It's like not having sex with the wife or gal pal so you don't wear out the lady. Make no since to me just enjoy yourself you only live once. I'm going out kicking and screaming.
I sold a 65 GTO tri power in 70. Sold a 69 427 vette in 75. Sold a 78 pace car in late 80's. Today they are worth a lot back then not so much.
To me it was the fun times we shared.
When I am in my 04 Vert with the lid off, I am transformed back to past in the present. At 74, yes age is progressing but I am not going quietly. To each their own. I drive the C5 like it is the last day.
I read a story many, many, years ago about a guy who was buried in his pristine red Ferrari, and his son had him exhumed later because he wanted the car.
My dad, 72 loves driving mine. But he gave me hell when I bought it. Called me irresponsible and all that. Then I was visiting him one afternoon and I came out to a flat tire. I used his compressor to pump it up and asked him to drive it slowly so I could check for a nail or screw in the tread. He agreed to help. He had never been in it before. So we finished checking the tire, he's still in the car. He gives me this sheepish look and goes, "this thing is growing on me. I'm going to take it around the block."
He comes back about 20 min later and tells me how much fun he had driving it. He has never been anything but supportive about that car ever since.
At 46 I would say if I went tomorrow I would leave it to my 12 year old daughter. She is my car buddy and loves working on it with me. Asked for her own tools last birthday so she could work on it with me. She's way more into it than any of my boys.
I'm 41 but feel like one of the old guys since have been here awhile. It'll probably go to my much younger wife lol she loves driving it more than I do these days. I get tired of everyone trying to race me all the time I now enjoy just driving the low key SUV.
I'm 74 and in fairly good health. My daughter has 3 boys (ages 11-13) and my son has 2 girls (11 & 13) so it would be hard to pick out one of the grandkids to give it to unless one of them really takes an interest in it as they get older. It will probably go to my son with an equal amount of $ to my daughter to keep things fair. That way my wife will not have to deal with selling it, which she would know nothing about!
An interesting thread and actually a topic I've been thinking about.
I'm turning 60 this year and currently own a C3 and C5 pair of weekend toys. None of my kids would probably want the responsibility of caring for my babies after I'm gone and the thought of selling doesn't seem right. I'm really considering donating them to the NCM when the time comes I can't enjoy them any more because of health.

This thread made me smile. When my daughter and grandson ( 16 yrs old ) walked into the garage a few weeks back to see the '03 Coupe I had just bought after selling my '95 Coupe. Her first words were, " Zack, look at your inheritance. " LOL at 74 yrs and just having a triple by pass and one eye done with surgery and the other at the end of this month. Hope that a few years down the line. Want to do a bit of traveling in this C5 for sure.
Two daughters, and two grandchildren....the Vette goes to one of them.
BUT, they are going to have to wait. Drive five days a week and run five days a week. Still love to wrench on a cold concrete floor. Still work ten hours a day, five days a week.
My plan... having reached 70 the plan is firm. Will buy my last vette (2018) next year (will be my first automatic) and sell my 04 Z06 CE to the most deserving Corvette owner (not necessarily the one who will pay the most for it!).
I am 72 years. Hopefully I have a lot of years left. But, when expensive medicine, healthy food and quality Tequila won't keep me going ..... .....When my time here, is up. My Corvette is to be sold. I know my kids pretty well, and am sure either one of them would feel he or she would have to --have to --- keep and maintain dad,s Corvette forever. So, I think it is best to sell it.
