Default Microfiber cloths

A friend mentioned that the microfiber cloths will make light scratches in paint due to them being made of nylon which I verified. I can see light scratches

Anyone have anything to say, pro or con?

I'm changing to soft cotton cloth.

I think you're right. I've noticed my car is showing more and more fine scratches.

I have been using micro fiber. I do admit I have to wash them dry them and heavily inspect them before I use them. What if we use an air coppressor and a certain tip to blow off the water? At 100k miles do a paint correction and 1500 dollar detail and paint some day when it gets too bad.

use a high quality microfiber such as the ones from adams polishes on the paint and you shouldn't have issues with the microfiber causing scratches. I've been using their microfibers for close to 5 yrs with no issues. if that rag goes on the floor, it becomes a rag.

A lot of us use a blower of some sort to dry the car. I have an electric leaf blower that does a great job.

Take one of the microfiber towels and rub it dry on a window, try both sides of the towel. Look and see what you find. There will be fibers on the window. That is what you are rubbing your car with.

Myth 6 Flannel, diapers and t-shirts make good cleaning cloths

The last material you want when cleaning your car is a smooth surface. Without any means of absorbing fine particles, these types of fabrics will end up just swirling dirt around on your car, possibly causing new micro-scratches. To avoid disaster, try using a microfiber towel since the deep surface creates a buffer zone that will pick up dirt and not grind it into the paint finish. The way we see it? Microfiber or bust!

Adams has some great microfiber towels, as well as the Rag Company.

All made in Korea

I use an Absorber to dry my car and it does not leave scratches. I will use microfiber towels when I wax the car.

I use a leaf blower then an absorber to dry the car. To remove wax and polish I use 100% cotton towels from Zaino or high quality microfiber towels from Griots. Cheap microfiber towels will leave fine scratches.

I really have never had a problem with any microfiber towels, as long as they were clean.

When using MST the first thing you must do is tear off the white small
Tag on the towel bc it will scratch the gel coat!!

Try a little electric leaf blower it's fast and nothing touches your paint. I never wipe dry my car after washing.

Leaf blower doesn't work so well when you have hard water.

Most of what I was using I purchased bulk packs from Mothers, & some Meguiars items, I am now moving on to higher quality.

https://www.theragcompany.com/the-ra...ny-difference/

And as stated above, the Mothers towels were leaving fibers on the surface.

I reuse a good quality micro fiber mitt that ONLY touches the Corvette, then goes in a gallon ziplock bag when done. When I detail, I go through quite a few towels. Usually once every couple years after a wash, I clay bar, 2 stages of progressively finer cutting compound, 2 stages of progressively finer polish, then another wash, and 2 stages of carnauba wax. In that process I use 5 BRAND NEW MICRO FIBER TOWELS ONLY!!!

After a month in the summer, I typically have 2 dozen used MF rags that then get washed. After that, they become interior detail rags until the end of the summer, then I toss them; I never reuse a MF on the finish of my car.

I buy a bulk pack from Costco when they are on sale, and that lasts me 2 years. I never have problems with swirls unless my neighbors cat decides to slide off my hood when it gets left out

This is the current finish on my car. It has gone through 4 or 5 plasti dip paint jobs, and an entire winter being washed with dish soap to remove old wax before I do a full detail sometime this year, and it is very even and reflective....but I also hand color sanded THE WHOLE THING when I first bought it so my paint is particularly level.

It's a labor of love, as I'm sure you are all aware
