I have a '99 model and when I first bought the car passive was activated. I found it to be more of a pain than anything.
I usually store my vehicle keys in my shop in a lock box, and with the car parked nearby - often indoors - the FOB would always sense the car and unlock it. Often I'd be in the shop or outside and would hear the distinctive *click*. I very early in ownership turned it off via the DIC.
When I got my '99 the passive was active so I turned it off because of the inconsistent operation. The range of the fobs was poor and operation was flaky at best. I had an extra fob for my '00 coupe that I thought I'd try to program and it worked. Now I have flawless operation and at a great distance too.
