Michelin Tire Question
Hi guys, took my car into a corvette specialist today to have one of the headlight motors replaced, he charged me less than half of what the dealer was going to charge me....so I was happy
Since I've only had the car for about a month I asked him to give it a once over and let me know if there is any other maintenance he would recommend and the subject of tires came up.
The PO had bought these tires about a year ago off of eBay, the tires only have about 500 miles on them but I found out they were actually manufactured in 2007, the guy told me that today along with Tire Dicounters told me the same thing a couple weeks ago when I had a TPMS replaced. The guy today said even though the tread is at almost 100% because of the age they are very hard and probably a safety issue if I had to stop fast.
So all that said I have been shopping online for tires, he recommended Michelin, I found Pilot Super Sports for $1090 out the door and also Pilot Sport A/S 3+ for $1029 out the door.
Can anyone help me with the difference between these two tires and which one is recommended.
Thanks for you help,
Nick

Pretty simple the Pilot Sport is a summer tire. The A/S is a all
season tire. You live in Ohio you have winters.
Good luck.

Thanks for the quick replay, I guess I should have known what A/S means.... if I don't plan on driving it ever in the snow I'm probably better off with the summer tire, is that a good assumption

The super sports (which I have on my cars) give the most grip than any other tire I've owned. But they are summer only and they probably won't last as long as the A/S

If you don't drive in winter you don't need snow tires. Summer tires do have superior characteristics for sports cars and will let you get the best performance out of your Corvette . They may not wear as well but most of the time tires on C5s age before they wear out. I have summer tires on mine and would never put all season tires on it. I don't drive it in winter.

Consideration is not just whether planning to drive in snow, its whether you plan to drive in colder temperatures. I decided to go with the Michelin A/S (non run flat), I never ever take my coupe out in any type of inclement whether. But if sunny winter day I enjoy using the car. Hence the A/S simply for colder temperatures. If thats not a consideration for you then no need for the A/S's i guess.

Your next big choice is run flats or not.
My neighbor had AS3 non run flats on his C6.
Called me one night and asked if I had an extra mounted tire, as he'd cut one and was sitting on the side of the road....
Fortunately, I'd just changed wheels on my 7, so had one that fit his car.
Run flats would have easily gotten him home.
Personally, I've had Michelin A/S PS2 ZPs on mine for years. No issues at all.
And they do work with no air.
50mph, railroad tracks, bumps etc. Just a slight pull to the flat side
As others have said, and I will attest, the SSports get very slippery whem the temps drop below 45 degrees or so...

No grip? Not really the case. I have driven summer tires in the winter and they are worthless on snow or ice, but on dry pavement they still grip the road if you drive sensibly. You just can't drive hard. They will break loose rather easily.

I had Pilot Super Sports on my STi for a season before I sold it. Best tire I've ever run for performance. Unreal grip, low noise (at least when new) and one tire balanced with a single stick on weight.
They will be my next set. I current have the Michelin Pilot All Seasons in runflat and like them as well.

Good choice, I've got them and won't go back to Goodyear, EVER. Yes there run flats, A/S.
