Rodents in garage
So my wife and I bought our house just this past February. It was empty for several months before we moved in, there was a small mouse problem inside the house that we seem to have taken care of completely.
The garage, where the Vette lives, is a different story.
From what I can tell the droppings I'm finding are that of a roof rat. The worst part, theres none on the floor, on any of my boxes, on the tool bench... the little bastard seems to like shitting exclusively on my car. There will be blood.
Exterminator is coming for the quarterly visit this coming Thursday. I'm going to chat with him and see what he thinks, but I'd also like to hear from all of you, maybe someone has had a similar problem? Traps, bait, weird home remedies, flame throwers, machine guns, whatever, as long as it gets rid of them I don't care. I know these guys can be tricky, just looking for your experiences to see whats worked and what hasn't.
In addition there are several things I know need attention. The garage is hardly Fort Knox and there are a lot of places I need to seal up or stick steel wool in to keep any more from getting in. Also hopefully soon I can get my wife to go through all her stuff thats out there so there will be less clutter for them to hide in.
Thanks so much in advance!

You seem to have a good plan and I've seen similar posts are very common, so you will be getting some good advice before long.

Now do you mean C-4 the explosive or should I go nab the centercaps and emblems off a C4 Corvette? Should be about 1.2 pounds and the guy down the street from me has one LOL.

I spent a dollar at the Dollar Store and bought a box of moth *****. Rats, bugs, snakes, etc., do not like the smell so they leave...Cheap fix and it does not make your car smell. Also, put bounce dryer sheets in your car and it keeps them out of the inside as an extra precaution.

Traps with peanut butter as bait and glue trays. I don't use poison because sometimes they die in the hardest places to retrieve the remains. Once you get them all, leave a couple of bags of mothballs on the floor under the car. Seems to keep them out of my garage.

Not joking, go spend 20 bucks on 6 pack of Irish spring soap and cut them up and put them in the car, on the engine, on the carpet, in the barrel of the wheels, with the bounce sheets someone else mentioned. And Tractor Supply sells a mouse repellent 4 pack for $14 which they won't like either and your garage will also smell great!
Best 20 bucks you can spend for piece of mind.

20 bucks for a six pack of Irish spring? You better go to Walmart.

I'm guessing your wife does the shopping.

Dude, you didn't read what I wrote. Irish spring, bounce and mouse repellent is about twenty bucks. Did you have a bad day?

Some good suggestions made in the thread. I have always used Bounce dryer sheets in the interior and engine bay and have not had any rodent problems. I do change out the sheets every so often so that they remain fresh and effective.

Wow, thanks guys. Definitely going to try these suggestions, well... except for maybe dmaxx3500s.
Wouldn't the soap melt under the hood? If you hadn't put "not joking" I definitely would have thought you were trolling me lol.

I have had good luck with a couple of different things. First and foremost, i bought a couple of electronic traps from home depot by far the best thing, i have killed more of those pesky things electronically than with the stick traps. Also i bought about 10 - $1 rubber snakes at walley-mart and placed then under my vette along with all garage door openings. i have had good luck with this.
Good luck with everything. Kill those BASTARDS!!!

I have had success with the mouse traps loaded with peanut butter. Also have used cotton ***** soaked with peppermint liquid, it works too. The best seems to be a dufus cat. I say that because if my cat can keep away mice, then any cat can.

There is a product sold that is essentially a very minty smelling, oil.
It smells kinda like peppermint.
I soak a sponge with it and leave it a couple of places around the garage. for whatever reason, rodents hate that smell and quickly depart.
To me it is not offensive to the smell, but it can be rather strong smelling right out of the bottle. It's cheap, effective, and long lasting.
