Default For those with electrical problems...

Been having a problem with fluctuating voltage at the battery and flashing lights, etc. Started by checking voltage at battery, was fluctuating from 13.3-13.9V with the motor running. I figured that this was because I had the a.c. on so I shut it off. Still had the fluctuating voltage and the lights still flashed(got dim), about once every 3-5 seconds. Next I started on the grounds which I found to be pretty clean for a 98. Still had the problem. Ok, nothing left but the battery so I figured I would disconnect it and give it a load test. Upon removing the positive cable I found this:

The connection to the battery was totally corroded with battery acid. After a good wire brushing and a dousing with a mixture of baking soda and water(to neutralize the battery acid) it was good to go. I slid the red insulator back on, pushed the battery screw back into the red insulator, reattached the battery terminals and started the car. Voltage at battery was stable and no more flashing lights....go figure!

I'm planning on removing the battery and battery tray tomorrow to check underneath. If I find corrosion, I'll use the baking soda mixture to get rid of the battery acid then probably get a piece of 1/8" stainless steel sheet to put under the battery to prevent any other leaks from getting thru.

Get one of these:

It has been established for any electrical issues the very first thing to check is to make sure all connections are clean and tight and battery is 100% charged. Then work from there.
